Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And now...look...I'm LEET!!!!!! :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

thou shalt never post again.

y a mi me gusta la comida de la campana del taco.
and on that note, what level of proficiency do you guys think is required to claim a foreign language on your app? i'm damn nigh fluent in spanish, but it's been about 5 or years so since i've used it intensively and i'm afraid of being called out in an interview. is this a legitimate concern? is there even any real benefits of bilinguality that would justify checking that lil' ol' box anyway?

That means you can't post anymore unless you don't want to be leet no mo.

It's the strangest thing... I've been seeing this TheMightySmiter2 character posting everywhere in the last couple of minutes.

EDITED... durn autocorrect

Agreed. As things stand, they get money, we get false hope.

We get a personalized email from Yale that uses our real name.

I'm printing that out to show the ladies, definitely.

I'm not leet anymore. Now I'm just a regular n00b. 🙁

Tambien me gusta la comida de la campana del taco, pero prefiero la comida de "del taco". Se puede comprar tres tacos para un dolar, todos los martes.

I don't consider myself fluent in Spanish (just conversational) so I didn't check the box. I'm strongly considering spending a couple of months before starting med school in Latin America, though, so I can try to become fluent.

And I really wanna be verified. I keep checking the AMCAS verification thread, and it looks like people are averaging 10 days from submission to verification at this point in time. But I'm jealous of all you guys getting secondaries!!

I speak Spanish pretty well actually. I did not put that I was bilingual because I don't consider myself fluent. I did however mention it in my description of various activities, and in passing in a few secondaries. It is definitely an advantage at schools that have significant Latino populations nearby. I'm from Florida, so I made sure that I mentioned it. I wouldn't want to be interviewed in Spanish though since it's already a nerve-raking experience and I mess up conjugations sometimes lol. Stupid subjunctives...

Oh, wow I just figured out how to make this stupid desktop go fastAr. I feel like a giant turd right now. 😳

yeah, i feel that my situation is fairly similar, and i may do something in kind. i was just terrified of the prospect of a hispanic interviewer rattling off some complex medical statement in his/her native tongue and me pooping my pants

i don't necessarily condone the message, but i sure would love to walk in slow motion to this song:

a slightly more laudable theme:

plus I think both my papers will be ready for submission by the end of July

cool beans. i've been working full-time in a lab since may of last year, but unfortunately, since we're funded under a five-year nih grant, the fruits of my labor won't likely be submitted for publication until well after i've vacated the position. the projects themselves take 6 months at a time, and we're so concerned about completing our studies within the allotted timeframe that we haven't done much writing yet. :'(

yea I'm doing clinical research, basic science is intense. Maybe something I'll do in medical school but it's something that require lots time/dedication to be productive (which I don't have for basic science at the moment).

yup, preclinical work: all the work, none of the glory. you fancy hospital types and your interacting with people.... boooooo

in seriousness, though, it's kind of exhilarating to work on drugs that haven't even been tested in a human population yet

Yay Weekend! No work till Sunday afternoon.. woohooooooooooooooooo

+1. My PI is taking a sabbatical for the next two years, and will pick up the final stages of my research when he returns...🙁. He says it'll be published in 4 years or something.

Love lasers.

This is exactly how I feel about putting Spanish down as a language. I've done tons of ECs within the Spanish speaking community and actually currently live in a densely populated Latino area so I want to continue practicing to become fluent. I'm just not ready to be interviewed in Spanish. Do you think that if we mention it in our ECs but not that we speak it fluently that Adcoms will still think its fair game to utilize in an interview? And I agree with you on the subjunctive, especially the past subjunctive.

love Lupe, currently have The Cool on blast in my car.

Ate some Ethiopian food for the first time today. That stuff's delicious! In other news, I'm still trying to get myself to write the three secondaries that I said I would get done this weekend 🙁.

Howdy '16! What's shakin'?

Howdy '16! What's shakin'?

Well, here we are, right in the midst of application season, and it seems everyone has crawled under a rock and died. I think we're in danger of having fewer than 2 pages' worth of posts in 24 hours, and that I cannot abide.

Moroccan, ay? That sounds really good. I don't think there are any of those places in Chi.
