I always loved Mew, 'cause that was my cat's name (yes, he received that name in '94, before Pokemon became a thing). I was the nerd who chose Bulbasaur as my first Pokemon in the blue version, and I got some excellent shots on Pokemon Snap. I still have all of my cards. So many, so many...

I thought Bulbasaur was super lame, because plants are dumb. A year and a half spent in a botany lab writing my honors thesis still has yet to change my mind. 😛

I know a lot of them. I could probably tell you the typing of any of them if you gave me the name, and I could probably tell you the best moveset to put on most of them. I could also give you a basic idea of most pokemon's stat spreads and the best way to train them.

Ground type.

Typically used as a defensive wall because of its resistance to stealth rock and all around good defenses (better on the physical side, I'm pretty sure.). Also, I believe it learns rapid spin, meaning it can get rid of entry hazards (obstacles that cause damage to your pokemon upon switching. Spikes introduced in gold/silver and stealth rock in Diamond/Pearl). I also don't remember what its ability is.

Pairs well with water types, which resist water and ice, and ferrothorn pairs well with it.

I haven't looked at Sandslash much, but I imagine a proper defensive set would be:

Impish Nature - Holding Leftovers
252 HP EVs, 252 Def EVs

Earthquake
Protect
Rapid spin
Toxic

Unfortunately, this set is walled by any steel or poison type that isn't grounded.

I imagine a choice banded set (+50% attack but can only use one move until switched out and back in) would work as well with 252 Atk and 252 HP EVs.

really, that never happened to me.

I also remember doing an item duplication trick for FFIV for the SNES. different game but I like how there were always ways to exploit games even back then.

Wow Tantacles you know more about pokemon than I do...hahaha!

I remember taking forever restarting over and over to get the starter with a "modest" nature so it would have +special attk.

The starter I liked the best was squirtle although blastoise was kind of weak, but you could go with a moveset of surf/ice beam/earthquake/ and body slam/hyper beam or something and be able to defend against both grass and electric types.

I gave Pokemon the benefit of the doubt up to Pearl/Diamond. Dropped it after this last round. White/Black? Lack of creativity, right there. Plus, I got tired of it, lol.
