I hope to finally attain baller status this summer

but, really, doing research and trying to write a review paper. Maybe a vacation, I dunno.

When are you starting???
Sounds nice and relaxing 👍

I don't start until the end of August. It still seems pretty far off, so I'm not thinking much about it yet.

But next week is Sequoia and Kings Canyon!

You should definitely try to fit in at least a small vacay. How long is your break? I think the summers at BCM are like, 3 weeks long...:scared: That won't leave me with a lot of summer research time.

You have shortened preclinical, right? I'm jelly.

Road trip time. See you guys when I get back.

Dude. Where are you matriculating? 🙂

PS: CuttingCorneas, you win the internet with your posts! IS your sn a reference to Un Chien Andalou?

Holy crap, I wish I could go to Sequoia and Kings Canyon, so jelly. I bet it's going to be gorgeous out there.

I think I start again before you do, haha. It seems like my school has a really long year, we started august 8th last year and got done today, so we have an 8 week break. It seems like all of my friends at other schools and in the COF 2015 thread got done weeks ago....

I think we have dedicated step 1 studying time because of it? I don't know really, just hoping. haha.

Whoa, mine is 8 weeks. 3 weeks is crazy short. Do you have research electives you can take third year or early fourth year?

We probably have those, but I'm not sure. I will learn very soon. It's such a short break because of the shortened preclinical curriculum.

Also, will I be able to survive med school without caffeine? I cannot drink it without suffering digestive consequences. I used to use it very effectively during sleep-deprived exam times in undergrad, but I can no longer tolerate it.

I am sure it is possible to survive without it but I personally couldn't have. Have you tried jolt gum? It works pretty well.

have you tried this? I only learned about it recently. I hear it works for some people, but I was still sleepy after having a bottle of the mango peach

I think I'd just better plan on keeping up with my studying and getting sufficient sleep. Any caffeine bothers me, and I take a supplement that contains quercetin without experiencing much of an energy-boosting effect. I'll just have to splash my face with cold water and run around outside naked or something to help me wake up. Get that adrenaline rush!

Yeah, the best plan is probably to just pace yourself and don't try to cram so much. Very doable, it will just take determination. I need coffee/monster/red bull during test weeks just because I end up needing to pull like 12-15 hour days of studying test week.

I just read something about how Florida is one of the very worst states in which a doctor can choose to practice. Well FL, I guess this is goodbye for good. It was nice growing up here. 🙁

Maybe if things change for the better in the future, I will return.

I have seen this a few times thrown around on SDN.

I believe Pennsylvania, Florida, and Oregon round out some of the worst states to practice, tort reform wise. Texas is usually quoted as the best, followed by Wisconsin and Indiana.

People are still dying to practice in Florida, it's not like Miami is hurting for doctors. The locale and social aspects of living in FL are enough to override financial concerns for some people. Plus, florida does make it easier for doctors to hide assets, via the Homestead Act or whatever it's called. I think it's uncommon but doctors will put ALL of their assets in their spouses name to shield from malpractice suits and that flies. It won't fly in most states, as far as I know.

Cinclus...I was in Palo Alto for dinner last night and I ran into someone we met at Baylor second look! She gave me a funny look when I went up to her 🙁

Awwww. You can be assured I would give you a happy look if you randomly approached me. 😀

Maybe I'll just stay in TX after I become a doc. I definitely won't freeze there...though I keep hearing good things about South Dakota, and even Utah, more recently. I would love to live in my beloved hiking state of Utah. I'd probably bleed to death through my nose though, due to the low humidity.

I am going to UT in a couple weeks! Anything I must see? (Flying there, so national parks are sadly out of the question. 🙁 )

Why are they out of the question? Not renting a car? Those are my main suggestions! You must visit Zion National Park at some point. Angels Landing was the greatest hiking experience I've ever had.

Edit: Just realized I got TOP!

I really wish I could but ill be in SLC the whole time, I have to be there from 9 to 5 every day. Probably not enough time to take a trip...

Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with the SLC area. I've just been through the airport. Are you going for a conference or something?

And LOLOLOLOL at the Oprah bees gif.

Edit: I'm still cracking up at the bees, 3 minutes later. I just keep watching it.
