Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm a nurse, too. Welcome! 🙂

Oh how nice 😀. Maybe we'll run into each other during interviews! To be honest, if I do get accepted I'm so nervous about the new role change. But I'm sure this is what I wanna do. I originally thought of becoming a midwife, but seeing the schooling and requirements etc I said, heck, a couple of more years I can be a full fledged physician. Through out undergrad I had my doubts but eventually narrowed it down and chose this road.

Than again, I might have a change of heart lol I like OB now but Oncology is starting to creep up on me after shadowing an amazing oncologist. We'll see, I hate to think about it now cause it's so far away, but it always excite me 🙂 and you need motivation to move forward right?

Good Luck everyone! :luck::luck::luck::xf::xf:

Yeah, I was considering applying to Peace Corps or Teach for America.

Peace Corps is way too much of a commitment, lol. I couldn't live in a foreign underprivileged country for 27 months...😳

Sounds like you've got a lot of great experiences already. I 😍😍 Nurses. They're so amazing...They do so much work and are sooo nice. At least the nurses at the hospital I volunteer anyway.

Being home can be kinda boring, but school is just as boring when I'm not in class 😕

So does anyone have much experience with EK Biology? I've gone through the whole book already and taken notes, and ended up averaging ~11-12 for a score on their in lecture questions. Just took the first 30 minute exam for lecture 1 and got 21/23 (--> 13 for a scaled score). It just felt a bit too easy, and I finished in 15 minutes.

Of course, if the scores of EK are fairly accurate, I would be one happy guy come next February :xf:

I did all of the EK stuff and my scores were pretty comparable to what I probably averaged on the 30 min exams. I definitely did way better on some lecture exams, so I just focused more of my time studying the ones that I didn't do as well on.

Awesome, thanks. I'm also going to do TBR bio passages towards the end of November, but from what I've heard those are probably going to rock me 😛

TBR bio passages are tough, but I think it'll solidify any weaknesses you may have more than anything, which is great. If you're doing so well on the EK bio, I'm sure you'll do well on the real deal.

Haha. I never did TBR, but I'm sure it will be nothing but helpful. I did take all of the AAMC practice exams though (all the way through with timing). That probably helped me the most because it got me used to how long the exam was and how I needed to pace myself... If you already know the material really well those might be helpful for you too.

I did EK 30 min exams and my scores were in the 12-13 range for Bio.....so considering my actual bio score they were OK.

Great, thanks for the advice everyone. Glad to know EK's test are at least moderately predictive.

I'm just dying to take an AAMC FL. I'm so inpatient. Still have a couple hundred TBR passages to do first though

👍👍 Well, from the test grades you mentioned earlier it seems like you're gonna rock the MCAT! :luck:

The push for a more verbal-based BS seems to be in effect, but I really do believe this depends on the test. My friend who took the 08/05 said his BS was pretty standard and about as difficult as FL11(which is pretty verbal based but still fair in a sense), while my BS was 65-70% ridiculous orgo.

It's good that you are doing well in EK, because it will boost your confidence which is definitely necessary for success on the MCAT. On the other hand, be ready for anything.

I'd be in love with my my MCAT if it had that much orgo 😍😍

Ditto. I'm hoping for a ton of ochem and physics--opposite of everyone else lol Bio and I don't get along, and I should be ok with verbal. We'll see in December when I start studying.......

I really like Organic Chemistry - that's why I became an Orgo TA this semester. 😀

I HATE organic chemistry!!!!!!!!!!! That is all 🙂

have my exam on thursday over r/s configuration, sn1, sn2, e1, e2 mechanism, and chemical reactions... ;/

have bio exam tom.. more worried about ochem, don
t know one chapter at all

SN1,SN2,E1,E2 reactions, all seem the same to me 😴

But you covered all that for the MCAT! You should be good! Once you get the rules/exceptions down, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

hey man since you and ozzi took the MCAT already, how much orgo 2 was on there? Because I'm not taking orgo 2 when taking the MCAT.

same here man...

Prob take my first one in May after i finish my pre-reqs, and idk is it good to take aamc 3 without any studying or just do a little and see where you lack.

In general there isn't much orgo on the MCAT. You could probably teach yourself everything you need to know more easily than if it were any other subject.

im thinking of taking some online courses during winter session to boost gpa ;p sadly there's barely any science classes offered. There's a few computer science courses that count as sGPA specifically for tmdsas tho.

hmmmm:meanie:

Not a bad idea at all. Go for it.👍

i think i might do it, and since i might still be enrolled as a dual credit student at my local CC from back then, the classes are free 👍

I'm just curious how a med school would look at an online class 😕

They won't know since his transcript won't show any indications of it being an online class. That's how my school works and i assume that's how his works as well.

My MCAT BS was ~60% orgo and 100% of it was BS. I'm talking about a lengthy(10+ step) mechanism passage that might have involved coenzymes and a few rearrangements. Not trying to intimidate you, but it's better to be safe than sorry

That sounds terrible. 🙁

That sounds like biochem, lol. 👎thumbdown

Oh, in that case, that's really awesome 😀

So, since our thread is buried halfway down the second page of threads, I thought I'd bump it by telling about my crazy experience today.

So I was supposed to have a pathogenic bacteria test today. It's my favorite class and it's relatively easy, so no big deal. As I'm leaving for the test, I blow my nose and get a bloody nose. Awesome. Turns out it didn't want to stop; my nose bled for an hour and fifteen minutes straight. I had walked to my test building during that time (with Kleenax up my nose and blood still dripping into my hand occasionally). Finally I found a janitor there and had him call an officer to take me to the ER. After another 45 minutes of bleeding at the ER, the clotting spray they gave me finally stopped the bleeding. Another five minutes and they would have had to cauterize it.

But, on a positive note, I get to make up my test tomorrow and I managed to get zero blood on my fleece or jeans (I was looking fly today so that was a priority haha).

Wow, that sounds terrible. I'm glad you're able to see the humor in all this instead of freaking out  Crazy...why were you bleeding for that long? 😱

All they could tell me was the dry weather 🙄

i was looking for the thread! and i couldn't believe when i found it last on the page! so HELLO EVERYBODY! where are you?! 😀

It's been midterm week here, which explains a bit on my part. I've been lurking but don't have anything to say because I'm [im]patiently waiting for a few of my grades back....

Haha, same here. Everyone is super busy now that school is kicking our butts.

Same here! 🙁 hope my grades are good! cause i didn't do good on my bio exam and it's terrifying me!

wish you all the best! 🙂

Sounds like a case for Dr. House.. speaking of which I just got done watching Season 6 for the 3rd time in order to procrastinate doing papers(UK system = nothing is due until the last 2 week of school, which is terrifying for me because I keep telling myself I still have 1.5 months left to do it all)
