Nice.
That awkward moment when the two Hispanic kids are making fun of your parallel parking in Spanish and you respond to them in Spanish then watch their faces shift into embarrassment.
I've had a few of those: priceless. My ex learned toda las palabras malas just from me driving. (I only cuss in Spanish when I drive.)
Someone into rainbow play? Ewww!

Malformed binary. Your binary code must be divisible by 8.
Haha I mean it can be fun. But when you are driving in the city or somewhere that you stop frequently it can be annoying.
Exactamundo!
The city or all of southern California. I drive everyday in ~3 hours of traffic to work and back in my awesome automatic. I was |--| close to buying a manual back when I didn't drive anywhere but my parents convinced me otherwise. I am thankful everyday that they smacked some sense into me. Every day traffic with a manual????? :scared:
Took the text right out of my fingers.

Aaaaaand, caught up!

Part of me thinks this survey is a scam to advertise aerospace preventative medicine, haha

Haha I have nothing interesting to say :/. I'm just on my break at work and bored.

I woke up sick, called out, and have been trying to work on my manuscript. It worked well this morning, but effort has steadily deteriorated as the day has progressed. I've been sifting through new threads instead. Bah. And I'm so close to being done with organizing my review articles and can soon begin to reinforce what I've already written. Then stats, conclude, get PI and resident input, submit, and await peer review slaughter.

Haha I miss writing a lot. I consider you lucky!

It will only be slaughtered by reviewer number three

because apparently that is the job of reviewer number three

I'm humbly thankful and just trying like heck to get this churned out and over with before I start med school. Another great thing about this primary author paper is that it should publish during MS1. w00t!

Ug I hate papers that cite a certain statistic, then you go their source and that paper just cites another source for the same statistic and so on...and you cannot find where this statistic originated. 😡

Nice! Is this your first big paper? Or have you written more?

You don't necessarily have to get the original paper for a certain statistic though.

No, I've been fortunate to have several and one other primary author. This will be my second but in a discipline in which I'm far more interested (Neurosx).

I feel you, especially when you're trying to evaluate the reliability and generalizability of said stat.

Absolutely, but see above for an exception. It blows.

Uuurrrrggggggggg studying has become such a drag. All you non-trads are lucky!

.

I too am interested in neurosx. What's the topic of your paperon? I recently had an editorial published on the same discipline.

Without revealing too much, it's looking at restrospective predictors in evaluating whether or not to pursue microvascular decompression in pts with trigeminal neuralgia, as well as assessing said predictors' efficacy in prognosing outcome via contacting pts several years post-op to administer a quality of life survey (an adjusted facial BPI).

Sounds interesting, I'd love to read it when it gets published. And not have to pay for it 😉.

Thanks. You bet! Just remind me to send it to you.

Also? Just finished organizing my materials! WOOHOO! Now off to write.

Haha good luck. Time to go back to work, have a great night everyone!

+1 but only so I can find your name and invite you to the facebook group 😎

Most of my paycheck goes straight to bills and loans... I can't wait to start school again 😀

So does mine, but at least it means you can pay bills and loans rather than just continually rack up debt. Also, it helps with disposable income.

When that happens I email my PI and he tells me who originally wrote it

I hate when you either get circular sourcing OR when someone references a paper that said something in the discussion with no proof OR most of all when everyone says something but no one references it

Guero where are you submitting to?
We're aiming for JNS for our first submission (J of Neurosx). It has a 2.965 impact factor, not bad. Our initial analyses were presented at the national AANS meeting last year, which owns JNS. So we figured it's our best shot.

My first paper in grad school was is in a journal with a 3.3

So my committee made me defend why that journal :s it was conference issue so I didn't even pick the journal. This was their only question when I asked to defend it was a little awkward since my pi picked where to submit it to.

2.9 for a niche journal that's pretty good I think

Dude, look at where you're accepted and waitlisted: no reason to complain. That said, I understand being bitter after putting in that much effort.

Your sure your not. Grad student it breeds said bitter feeling

On the otherhand it took 4 years till I got my first paper it was my 4 lab placement (although two were in industry so no papers allowed)

Always the chance someone will keep the work up after you move on and drop a few publications into your lap
