Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yahoo Answers is awesome

I know someone who told me they studied 7 hours a day in premed, and 14 hours a day on weekends, with 10 minute breaks every 4 hours.

How could she study so much? Do premeds really study this much? I mean, 7 hours a day? How is that possible!?

The average human can only pay attention for 50 minutes at a time, and to study for 50 minutes with 10 minute breaks all day long for 8+ years must take so much willpower.

How do these people do it?

I'm definitely wearing this to a party.

UW applicant buying cougar gear? Bold move, sir.

😛

haha, well it would be an actual stuffed cougar.

Well, UW won't get off their butt and just accept me. During my interview, they questioned my desire to work with the Latino population. I was like, what? You mean you don't believe I want to work with them when 2 of my major ECs were spent working in Spanish speaking countries, one of my letters of rec was from a Spanish professor I had and I have spent 4.5 years learning Spanish? I even had one last class, that I was taking while interviewing, left for my B.A. in Spanish.

I think I convinced them, but I still haven't heard anything from UW other than being Still Under Consideration for the last five months.

Congrats on your acceptance there. Are you going to matriculate?

Yep. I studied abroad in Ecuador and Guatemala, along with taking a ton of Spanish classes at my university. I graduated in December with a BA and a BS. That's where my username comes from.

I've never gotten any actual experience in a foreign country, although I did translate for patients at an underserved Hispanic clinic. I got lightly made fun of for my "proper" accent. One of the schools I've been accepted to has a fantastic medical Spanish program and an opportunity to shadow/do rotations in a Spanish-speaking country. I'd LOVE to go.

I took a medical Spanish class in Ecuador and had a few classes at the medical school. They taught me a bunch of words to say and I used them in Guatemala...

In Guatemala I translated for a bunch of physicians. The doctor asked me to ask how the child's poop was. Anyways, I asked, "Como es la caca?" That is how the Ecuadorians say it.

Well, I guess in all other Spanish speaking countries caca = ****

We learned a bunch of words in my medical Spanish class last semester that lay-people often use for body parts and stuff... Can't remember any for the life of me. Actually, that's a lie... I know a bunch for penis.

Question for you guys: the day you got your MCAT scores, did it actually take until 5 o clock or where they available first thing that day?

Hahaha: O, este hermosita, "Como es la mierda?" Ah, mis amigos que hablan la mejor lengua, mucha amor. 🙂

Debemos viajar a Cancun para "practicar la lengua."

It was somewhere between 3-5PM EST.

Sorry to hear it, I hope they see the light and admit you ASAP. On the bright side IIRC you have a 50% scholarship to a solid school, so it's not all bad. 🙂

As for me it's way too early to say. I'm still waiting on a few schools and I'd probably go anywhere that offered me good fin aid. I've got some idea of my top choices but probably won't be able to decide until April.

This is one of the few times I like PST. Mine were ready at like 2.

So, yes, they waited until 5 EST to post the scores.

You remembered correctly. But I may not choose Creighton even with the 50% scholarship. I think my fiancee and I are leaning towards VCU. Since I would get married in December to a Virginia tax payer (because she would be working), I would become an in-state student.

Plus, the rank of VCU is higher than Creighton. With the addition of the new medical building at VCU, I think that rank will only increase. Finally, the starting teacher salary in Virginia is about $20,000 higher than in Nebraska.

BUT! I want to stay in Washington. UW is my top choice, but I am more than happy with the other medical schools I have been accepted to.

I had no idea I had to wait 20 seconds between posting. I didn't think I was going to be able to get it.

Felicidades, amigo.

Tempted to just continue in this thread 100% en Espanol. Que piensas tu?

El problema con esto es que no he hablado espanol en tres meses. Tambien, he cambiado mi computadora y ahora no puedo hacer acentos.

Pienso que necesitare escribir totalmente en Word para hacerlos.

Side note: someone told me it was against the ToS to write in Spanish. I was like, en serio? Pero, los lei y es verdad.

Well, I remember someone saying something in the ToS that could be interpretted as going against other languages other than English. I am rereading it to find something that could be it.

What? I wonder why...

Well, I remember someone saying something in the ToS that could be interpretted as going against other languages other than English. I am rereading it to find something that could be it.

I found the PM, I remembered the thread where we started speaking in Spanish and read the ToS.

Okay. Here is goes. And I won't link it, name any people, etc. so I don't break the ToS.

The thread originally started in English, and after a few posts, we began to speak in Spanish since the OP spoke Spanish natively. Someone else said that they wanted us to speak in English since it is an English forum even though the OP was visibly struggling with English (incorrect tenses, subject verb agreement, etc.). We said we didn't care, and continued in Spanish.

Then the PM, the person complaining sent me a quote from the ToS. Pasted from the ToS, it says: "Student Doctor Network members are expected to contribute to a helpful, positive and enjoyable forum environment. Please refrain from behavior which irritates other members of the forums."

Apparently our speaking in Spanish irritated them and he insisted we speak in English. I quit posting in Spanish and stuck to English for the remainder of my time on SDN and just didn't post in Spanish because I thought it was against the ToS until now.

tl;dr It isn't against the ToS to speak in Spanish. Just keep on topic, don't intentionally try to irritate someone else, talk about sexual topics (like our pene stuff) etc. and you can do whatever you want.

Oh, and I think the more universal translation of "how's the poop" would be "¿Cómo está la materia fecal?"
😉
