Man. Heat choking in the stretch. Didn't anticipate this.
damn refs not calling fouls took LBJ out of the game.

No bueno!
Yeah, I have to look into Firecracker. IDK if FC/Anki/GT are just for the step or can they be used for the first year of medical school.
I read some things previously where an individual was discussing Anki in detail, specifically how they used it throughout the first two years. It did sound very useful. The person had a blog (search for 'docwillbe' or something similar; will try to post link when I am not on my phone).
I'm pretty sure I'll give at least one of them a detailed look. I like the idea of not making all of the cards (though I imagine that also provides some of the benefit) and spaced repetition in general. I believe I've read also that FC can get into significant minutiae and the number of cards per day can get large.
Still - sounds like a reasonable path.
Just got Zero Dark Thiry from redbox. Excited!
If you can post the link that would be great.
Awesome movie

Damn, beat me to it. 🙁
Edit: So I can at least add something, here's how that guy puts it to use in studying Path: http://www.drwillbe.blogspot.com/2012/02/studying-pathology.html
Yeah, I know you have to be careful with FC to avoid having obscene amounts (hours and hours) of cards to do per day, but from what I've read that's pretty doable as long as you're diligent overall (i.e. don't let a bunch of content build up without following through). Hard for me to say much more than that as I don't yet have any experience with how the nuts and bolts work. Honestly, Anki is probably a "better" way to go since you learn as you make the cards, but I'm just concerned that the sheer volume of material is such that I'll be hamstrung just to get through the premade cards in FC/GT (9000 IIRC).
You guys are killing me here!!! I don't even know what you're talking about!

Me neither. 🙁

Well I'm sold.
What is the difference between anki and FC?
Bulls > heat.
Go Sonics.

Class of 2017 = 😴
Me + Zero Dark Thirty =![]()
Yeah I still need to watch that... It's on my extremely long to-watch-before-med-school list
I unintentionally decided to do the same thing. It's getting quite furry at the sides. I'll probably have to YouTube "How to grow a huge beard without looking like an 18th Century side-bearded troll." I'm thinking about doing a weekly pic to see how much it grows. But I wish I'd have thought of that sooner, lol.Decided to let my facial hair grow out for the next few weeks before I move and start anatomy in June. Never done it before since it grows kinda sparsely, but I figured now's as good a time as I'll find. I won't be seeing anyone here for years to come. Plenty of time to live down the scraggly almost-beard that I'm sure will result. Lol
Nice!I am letting my facial hair grow out too. That's what started this whole changing my avatar every week.
Speaking of which, here's week #2 avatar pic.
+1Im just focusing on surviving MS1 for now. And then Step 1. And then residency apps.
With a whole lot of panicking in between all those.
Look at NickNaylor's "Ask an M2 - AMA" thread for more info regarding opinions of prepping for Step 1 throughout med school. The consensus is to avoid it. But to each their own. Personally, I'd rather focus on material I know I'll be tested over to ensure I make good grades. Then, mid M2, I'd start prepping hardcore for Step 1. But who knows, I really want to blow Step 1 out of the water after my MCAT debacle. Besides, an awesome Step 1 translates to so many open doors regardless of specialty.Yeah, I have to look into Firecracker. IDK if FC/Anki/GT are just for the step or can they be used for the first year of medical school.
Me, too (moving costs and working past May).Ooooh 30 day trials... I like it!
Moving costs are the reason that I am working past mid May. And the end of August seems a bit late? Does your program not begin until sometime in September?
You guys are killing me here!!! I don't even know what you're talking about!
Gunnas gunna gun, yo.Me neither. 🙁
LoL, I have a pea-sized bladder and end up peeing q20minutes once I hit beer 3 or 4. I swear, the nicknames my friends come up with each time I get up never ceases to amuse me. 🙂awesome movie...I was about to pee my pants during the whole raid. And not just because of the numerous beers I drank.
So upset with Golden State tonight.
Anki is just a program that lets you make digital sets of flash cards and review them in a spaced-repetition format (i.e. stuff you know better comes up less often and vice versa). So you'd make the flash cards yourself as you're going through your med school classes and/or going through first aid etc.
FC is a premade set of cards based on med school curriculum designed for Step 1 that also uses spaced repetition. So as you learn stuff in school you flag the relevant topics in the FC cards and those get added to your review sessions. I think they've added some other features to FC, but at it's heart it's a giant premade set of step 1 flash cards with the spaced-rep algorithm.
FC sounds like it would be great, but coming up with the $250 would be tough. I wonder how well people do who mostly just try to do really well in classes and use THAT as prep for USMLE?
Agreed. I'd definitely use SOMETHING like First Aid, FC/GT during your 4-7 weeks of provided study time by your school at minimum. However, dudeliness, you have different materials since you're taking the COMLEX.Probably about as well as they would on the MCAT by just studying for classes rather than the exam.

LoL, I'm positive you're not alone.lol... I just realized that it's "COMLEX" and not "COMPLEX." I always thought the latter was a hilariously intimidating acronym for a gigantic standardized test.
Is it weird that I can't respect Guero in this forum because I keep thinking his profile pic is actually him? At first I think he gives good advice, but then I'm like, "Ew, don't listen to that old guy" hahaha![]()
You should've seen my Dr. Tinycat avatar. Then you really would've found it difficult to heed my advice. 😉Is it weird that I can't respect Guero in this forum because I keep thinking his profile pic is actually him? Probe assays!?!?! Omg, where was your mind!?
Hahaha, I figured as much. Is that in SF or PDX?The clinic I work at does a LOT of STI testing.
It really is him. Prepare to feel the wrath of Guero...
