Anyone want to PM me what they wrote for acceptance withdrawal letters? Or maybe link me to an MDApps where someone posted their withdrawal letter? I'm writing one now and am not sure what to write other than

"Your school is awesome. Thanks for the acceptance. I'm withdrawing, but will be applying for residency."

I wrote the same e-mail to every school I withdrew from:

Dear Office of Admissions,

My name is Doctor Strange (#XXXXXXXX). Thank you for offering me a spot in the class of 2017, but I would like to release the hold on my seat at the XXX School of Medicine at this point in time.

Please let me know if any followup is required and how I can go about receiving a refund for the deposit made.

Thank you.

Break-ups are hard. Just make it quick and easy.

So question... If I'm graduating this month but will obviously be re-enrolling full time in a couple months, do I have to do exit counseling?

EDIT: Nevermind. Called the financial aid office, and they said no. 🙂

That's actually pretty darn close to what I wrote:

To Whom It May Concern:

I am reluctantly writing to officially withdraw my [acceptance or] position from the alternate list with the hopes that it might allow another deserving applicant to possibly attend your school. Due to X, I must accept one of the my other offers. I still believe that Y would have been the best match for me and hope to interview with Y for residency in the future.

Many thanks,

Your Dearest Guero

Hahaha that would merit a swift kick to the nuts
Haha... agreed.
This is exactly what comes to mind when I think about team building exercises...
Good point, my undergrad orientation was a week too. (Actually, it was a week-long beer fest. Going to college in Quebec had its advantage. Singular form intended).
Dangit, beat me to it. +pissed+
:zip:
LoL, the joys of staggard schedules and EtOH.
Yeah... as I predicted, they were all smashed and kept me up until 2am. Luckily it's easier to handle sleep deprivation now than it was when I was in undergrad. Haha
I don't think you get to call anything unnecessary.
Banned before I got to work. Impressive.

Nice, although IIRC it really only takes a few minutes to do. Oh and I have to deal with the same giant security deposit 🙁

I just got congratulated by a Nobel prize winner for being accepted to medical school. 😛 I guess I can check that one off of my list of interesting encounters while in the elevator.

Ahh the joys of working at UCSF. I just got asked if I had a cigarette from a lady with a beard. I think we both know who came out on top this morning.

Yamanaka, Blackburn, Prusiner, or Bishop?

I'm going to post a Letter thread so everyone has some basic templates and ask them to sticky the darn thing.

lol... if SDN stickies a letter template thread, 99% of letters medical schools receive in the 2014 cycle will be practically identical. I bet a handful will forget to replace the blank lines with actual names, and I bet at least one forgets to cut the "last edited by Guero on 5/8/2013 at 11:00am" out of the bottom.

Yamanaka, Blackburn, Prusiner, or Bishop?

It was Mike Bishop

Have you considered Caribbean schools? They won't care about your lower GPA as long as you can pay.

:meanie:

Rejected by the last school I had a pending application at. 100% matriculating at UW! GLORY GLORY APPLICATIONS ARE OVER

There was a PS sent to me for review that was very similar to two personal statements posted on mdapps. I don't know how I feel about posting letters/essays and stuff like that anymore.

:highfive: congrats on finally being done with this cycle ! that's gotta be a relief.

Getting into UW OOR and rejected from OHSU IS is a little confusing...opposite of expected outcome but I'm not complaining!!

oh nice. if i dont get in, i shall be 2700 miles away in Brooklyn haha.

Brooklyn's not the worst place to be 🙂 You'll get in though.

If "I" don't get in, I'll also be 2700 miles away, but in D.C.

lol... you'll get in. I don't think they invited many alternate listers to second look (although I guess you know that since you were there 🙂 ).

+1

Every time a new person gets added to the UCI fb page, I die a little more.

Poll please?

COA State School w/scholarship: $180-200k
COA OHSU: $328k, perhaps $308 w/frugal rent.

Love OHSU, but also farther from friends and expensive move.
Hate region of state school, but has AWESOME clinicals.

Ugh!

Who votes state? Who votes OHSU?

Hang in there! Is Mr. Wifey is moving with you wherever you go?

Haha, yes. We're a packaged deal 😀 (But it's more like I'll be moving with him wherever he goes).

i really hope we all end up at UCI! Wifey you're going to have to give me tips on being married 🙂 future-Mrs. imcanadaian wont be joining me during M1, but after we BECOME a packaged deal in summer 2014 she'll be coming along!

What about OHSU makes you love it?
Why do you hate the region of your state school? Will having friends closer offset that?

This seems hard! I know for me region/being close to friends is so important to me, enough so that cost/prestige, etc doesn't matter as much. It's the whole "i would be happiest" here things.

Hate makes me think you wont be happy at your state school. ~120K is a ton of dough

Considering your current undergrad debt I would go Tennessee.
