So much happened in this thread while I worked and then attempted to sleep.

You haven't lived until you've driven in Miami traffic.

Stop signs are suggestions and rules are abstract ideas.

Has anyone ever driven/ridden in another country? I was in Guangzhou, China recently, and driving on major roads is like returning a kickoff with 40 players on each side.

Yea... nighttime in Tokyo is not fun. Everyone has road rage in Jamaica. The highways are nice and traffic free between Goteborg and Stockholm, however. Actually, I don't know about the last one as that was over a decade ago.

I'm jealous, it sounds like you've gotten around. Incidentally, Japan and Scandinavia are the two places I want to visit really bad before I kick the bucket. hahaha

I was in Guangdong about 12 years ago..thankfully not driving but riding - still scary as all goes out. I've also been to Greece and France - not as bad, but there are some extremely narrow roads there, it blows my mind how more cars aren't missing their side-view mirrors.

👍
I wanna visit Italy and Japan!

I think the environment breeds different driving skills and habits. I would wreck in the first hour, no question.

I have a friend who got to study in Japan this summer. It just seems like such an amazing place. Mostly I want to go to Sweden/Norway because I have some Scandinavian blood in me and like to fancy myself a viking.

But who wouldn't want to see something like this, too? Seems so cool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_sun 😀

Spent all day today writing my heart out to Loyola. I'll be sad if I don't at least get an II from them, because I really opened up to them in their secondary. :xf:

Oh man.. this reminded me about one of the mountain passes in Jamaica... It's a "2 lane" road with nice cliffs on the side without guard rails... frequently traveled by large trucks and dump trucks.... Oh and did I mention blind corners (and not really 2 lanes).

This sounds familiar!

When I traveled in Yunnan, China we traveled through the mountains first in a bus and then in van for almost 16 hours! During the first hour of our mountain accent in the bus we hit traffic due to a car going off the side of the mountain...That was not a good way to set up the remaining trip. Then the road became narrower and narrower(and there were no railings) to the point where when we went around a corner in the van we honked. We asked the driver what happens if he hears someone else honk at the same time. His response: "You brace for impact." On our last trip back into the mountain village(we made a 2 hour trip between 2 villages 3-4 times) we ended up hitting a guy on his motorcycle coming around one of the curves - needless to say everyone was fine. On that same last trip through, fog covered the mountains and despite the fact we couldn't see 5 feet in front of us our driver miraculously was able to keep driving. I remember looking out window and seeing our tire about |-------| that far from the ledge. This was probably one of the most terrifying hours of my life!

Turned out to be totally worth it though because I spent Christmas day in Yuanyang where I watched the sun rise over miles of rice paddys. Was pretty awesome...ahh now I want to go back 😍

Hey guys! I hope everyone's cycle is going well. 🙂

As for me, I'm taking the MCAT September 1st. Yes, super late. I took it the first time July 14 but I voided it because I felt I did terrible in the PS section. I'm pretty bummed out because I don't even know if I'm going to get accepted anywhere with such a late MCAT. Does anyone have any advice?

Dear GOD, man! I do believe I would've become incontinent on that trip.

You should be fine. I took mine only a week before September 1st last year and still landed two interviews. You'll be at a slight disadvantage; but it's better than waiting another year, IMO. Good luck! You'll blow it away, I'm sure.

Hey dudes and such, I am new to this crew. I just wanted to say hello to the rest of my 2017 hopefuls!

Thank you for your kind words. 🙂 Everyone else is saying that I should withdraw my application already.

You're more than welcome. Son burros, mija. No todo es perfecto. If you've already submitted, definitely don't withdraw now. You're automatically considered a reapplicant the following year at the schools to which you've applied regardless of whether or not you go through with secondaries and such. It's one thing to forego this application season. It's an entirely different thing to apply and withdraw. Suerte.

Yep, already submitted. Huh, I thought you would not be considered a reapplicant if you had not filled in secondaries. I was considering adding some more low-tier MD schools but people kept insisting I withdraw instead, instead of wasting money. Luckily, I got accepted for FAP so I haven't spent any money (so far) this app cycle. But if there's even the smallest chance of getting in somewhere, then I won't withdraw.

Muchas gracias, tus palabras realmente me ayudaron mucho. 🙂

I guess that is up to personal interpretation, but I think submitting the primary to school X would qualify a person as an applicant (or a reapplicant to school X, if they do so again the following cycle).

If you have FAP, you're in a much better place... at least you won't be wasting a lot of money, just let the dice roll.

If I'm already considered an applicant, I guess there's nothing else for me to do than proceed full steam ahead! My chances are slim for MD, but I might get lucky somewhere. Yeah, I'm still very thankful I was approved for FAP...I don't know if I could have applied without it.

Doing alright, sir. And yourself?

I personally cannot complain. I am just waiting on verification on my AMCAS even though it won't be done until the end of August/beginning of September. I wish I submitted earlier, but I just became to entwined with my MCAT studying.

I'm nervous. I want someone to give me an interview lol. 🙁 Also I've been having weird health problems lately. I just want to be normal. /complaints

Sorry.

Me too dude. Have had an unproductive cough for like 3 weeks, and I NEVER get sick. My one roommate's got bloody stool and my other roommate has abdominal pain and is having 5 bowel movements a day. What is going on?

Can't complain. Back to the grind of school but thankfully most of my secondaries are done so I can focus on other things.

How I would love to be back in school again. After running around like a chicken with my head cut off for four years, I thought that moving to the beach and having almost no responsibilities except a part time job would be like falling into a pool of feathers, but no. I am restless as HELL just sitting around in my apartment. I haven't even been to the beach yet. It seems like a waste of time, lol. I want to be in school again!

Would you guys add any more schools with my stats? (See MDApps.) I keep getting nervous nowhere ever will like me. 🙁

Haha, I know that feel. We just switched to semesters this year from quarters, so my normal 3-month summer was cut to 2 months but I still felt like I was so unproductive even though I basically had my entire day to research/writing secondaries, simply because I had so much time to burn though.

But I'm jelly - the beach would be an awesome reward if you put in a ton of work one day and just took the following to chill there.

Ugh, totally sympathize with GI issues. Hope you guys are all feeling better. 🙁

I don't think I would if I was in your position. If you have a solid personal statement, ECs, and letters of rec I think you'll make it. I completely understand your anxiety though. My stats are pretty similar to yours, and I felt so anxious that I wouldn't measure up anywhere on paper. I got my first invite today though, and now I can look back and realize how early it actually is in the cycle. I was panicking way too early! It's easy for me to say now of course, but I really do think you'll get your chance! :luck:

Thanks! You're right, perhaps I should just chill out. I'm sure it'll be easier once I'm wrapped up in school work again. Congrats on your interview invite! 😀

Keeping busy will definitely help, but also make sure you have some friends who can take your mind off things. Best of luck, and make sure you take some time to enjoy your senior year! 🙂

Definitely enjoy senior year, it goes by so fast.

Haha, I was thinking about that at the end of junior year. For some reason, college seems to be a way to perpetuate juvenility. I'll still feel like a kid until I graduate, even if I'm something of an old man at heart. This is my last chance to be young. 😛

Going back to school is kind of weird, since I'm running into people who have yet to be verified, much less finished with secondaries. In the meantime, I'm almost done with all of mine (with the exception of schools that pre-screen, so that's up in the air).

After seeing how much writing I've done over the past 2, 3 weeks, I'm very glad that I submitted when I did..it's saved me so much time and stress!
