Wow, I'm envious Tots. I have a friend in rural Japan. Everything I've seen from that corner of the world has been intense.

I have seen our version, though, from Canyon Lands to the North Rim, and even farther. There are so many beautiful corners to this world.

Canyonlands and Zion are right in my back yard! I'm not originally from here, but man it is pretty!

I know. We waxed sentimental about it long ago in another thread 😉 I've been fortunate to travel 43 of our states and was lucky to see some of the best they had to offer, which is why I wanted to see what so many other countries had to offer. This world is one beautiful place, mis amigos.

I went on two high school trips to rural Japan. Pretty awesome. We went into the bigger cities too, but rural was so much more fun.

Oh boy my school and some other school's .edu servers are not working. Also the internet on campus is down and this is our midterm week.

I lived over there for a little over a year. Wouldn't trade that experience for anything. Really really really recommend taking a trip out to Asia if you can.

Did everyone go to Asia as part of an organization or was it a leisure trip? How did you plan such a trip?

I had Panda Express for lunch today, does that count? 😳

Yeah, always a good call. I'm not quitting until the end of may, but I'll be doing the same thing.

Perhaps y'all could help me pick a destination. I'll have 2-4 weeks.

I don't have much interest in EU due to past travels and cost. I have already been to Morocco, India, and Nepal. I'm thinking either somewhere in South/central America (would love to backpack Patagonia but not sure about the weather that time of year) or SE Asia (Thailand + Vietnam + Cambodia [would kill to do Bhutan or Tibet but probably don't have the cash and patience to get requisite guide or permits, respectively]). I've also always wanted to visit sub-Saharan Africa and Mongolia...

Any suggestions from past travels?

I did Bhutan & India 😀 Bhutan is gorgeous! but their food made me sick :/ it turns out that my whole "oh, I can eat anything spicy I grew up in Mexico" deal does not work everywhere 😳

I was hoping to visit Chiapas & Oaxaca this summer but it looks like my budget won't allow it 🙁 current alternatives are either a roadtrip/camping across CA and possibly helping friends move from AZ to Seattle.

My fellow upperclassmen, did you use inter-folio for your LORs? I would appreciate if you have any input on this. Is it good, bad, expensive? Any other alternative. Thanks 🙂

I used intefolio for AACOMAS and TMDSAS only. AMCAS has its own letter service. Only use interfolio if you need to for the aforementioned applications. It's such a rip off and a hassle. But their customer service rocks if you end up needing them. GL!

Personally, I loved Interfolio. Took some of the tedious work out of the AMCAS letter system. But I also got my letters around March, so I wanted to lock them down. Interfolio let me do that quite easily.

I disagree. Use interfolio no matter what you need. I had none of the aforementioned struggles and it didn't find it to be a burden ($$). Not to mention, they keep your letters for a period of 5 years after your initial payment runs out in case you want to re-up and use them again (say for scholarships).

Well well well...

I've skipped the last 10 pages on tho thread. I'm gone for a few days and I'm so lost now. Lol. What did miss?

I used my school's career center letter service to store letters I got in undergrad. I would definitely make sure you are able to store those letters in case you need them again

Histology lab practical in T-minus 40 minutes.

"What type of tissue is this?" "....kleenex"

oh lawd

:scared:

I have a confession.

I had caffeine this morning. And it was so damn good. Why did I quit again?

I am too, but as a ~15 year old on a school trip there isn't much to do in a foreign city.

I only ever saw one person get carded (not counting clubs) in Japan and it was in the middle of nowhere.... that **** was funny though...

We all just looked at each other like "tha ****, did that seriously just happen"

Not that it mattered since everyone else buying was 20+:laugh:

But yea.. I see your point.

Caffeine or coffee? Why would you quit?

My SO just sent me some nice Blue Bottle coffee 😍

I can't speak for her, but for me... it's worth it to only drink it when you need caffeine and then never any other time.

The rush is INSANE!

Interesting... I guess that makes sense. Coffee just makes me very happy in the mornings. I usually drink ~1 cup a day and I really enjoy it 🙂

Take the plunge. Go without it for next week (suffer through the withdrawal) and then try it again on the 11th.

Fun times.

Alright, time to check out this new gym... need to put some muscle back on.

Yeah, I drink "1 cup" which is actually a mug of about 20 ounces or so. I wish I'd never started so I could reserve it for emergencies. That said, I do enjoy the HECK out of it in the morning and don't get caffeine headaches or anything when I don't drink any on the weekends. I guess I'm your average consumer.

So, anyone else as neurotic as me and looking into summer research opportunities between M1 and M2? I'm super duper interested in the international experience with IFMSA. But it looks pretty difficult to pull off for me since I don't have a local chapter at any of my potential schools. Grrrr. That's what I really want to do though, combine research with international travel and customs. Muy interesante! But I'm hoping to do it in Germany...

 Is this day over yet? C'mon!

Also during summer I recommend cold brewing some iced coffee. The flavors from cold brew are less bitter and acidic than when you brew with hot water.

I love cold brewed coffee! Such great flavors! I just haven't done it at home. Do you have special equipment?

I use a French press. Put coffee and water in it over night.

You can use any container I guess, add coffee and water, and just filter it out.

Then dilute it to how strong you like.

Alright, time to check out this new gym... need to put some muscle back on.

I'll keep it in mind for the summer...

I am currently having a mild case of the "runner's knees" :/ the snow does not make it easier to walk...

Yeah that's really it. It just became a comforting habit to have coffee in the morning and then I felt like crap when I didn't have it. I quit so that it would actually work again in med school.

I LOVE my coffee. But man my one cup of tea (still trying to stay away from coffee until I need it) had me bouncing off the walls with a smile this morning.

Actually screwed for this exam tomorrow. Not coming back to SDN for at least 24 hours.

I hate drugs. Omg. This exam. My life is a joke.

That was a fast 24 hours!

I am still typing up a transcript for 12 hours of video my PI gave me. I am on page 130 and have 4 hours of video left. Someone kill me now!

But, I am getting paid $14.50 an hour to type this thing.

Just dropped off my acceptance response in the mail. Here's to an enlightening and hopefully not-too-difficult 4 years.

You beat me to it! I lawld. 🙂 We're all so addicted to this darn forum now. It's going to be hilarious to see how few of us post during med school.😀

Congrats! Feels good, doesn't it? 🙂

It feels weird. It didn't really hit me how much of it a committment it was going to be until after I dropped it off. Then I started to cry and panic. I'm better now😛

Glad you're better. Remain calm and enjoy the peace before the storm. :highfive:

I'm so sad I'm late to this coffee talk! My first purchase when I move is going to be a nespresso 😛 Yum!
