Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's not even 10AM, and it's already above 80 degrees... Ugh. My morning workout is going to suck...

You live in the wrong place. In WA, it was 50 degrees when I went to work yesterday. Everyone was wearing shorts and t-shirts without jackets.

I think the high was like 58 and I saw people playing frisbee, having a picnic outside, etc.

Totally feel like this at work today.

Hey everyone! Just checking in since I haven't been on here in a while. I hope you are all doing well!!

Guero, Please don't drink the first 100 well drinks. Free is good but its not worth it 🙂

What airline??? I MUST KNOW!

My flight back from Rome via Delta has free wine and beer. Definitely didn't complain, especially because it was decent beer.

Going through Game of Thrones withdrawal. It's been too long.

Almost done with Season 2!

Never mind, apparently methanol is also in lab grade EtOH. I don't want to be blind, so no cheap drinks!

Yeah the EtOH you buy for lab is denatured, meaning they put extra compounds into it (like methanol) to make it undrinkable. Pure EtOH is ultra expensive, for obvious reasons haha.

Just had the biggest cinnamon roll I've ever seen. It was about 10 inches in diameter!

It's swelteringly hot on the East Coast now, and my clinic's air conditioning broke in the front office. Someone was nice enough to buy us lunch, though. I'm going to miss that place🙁

Just out of curiosity, are you guys going to give up SDN when med school starts? Or become an infrequent poster?

I imagine some of you could never give it up--by the number of posts you have, you must be on SDN all day long.

I definitely was... it was the only thing that made my job bearable.

But yeah, I'll still post. Definitely not as much, and probably more in the allo forum. But I still plan on contributing when I can.

Probably going to give it up. I'm only on here because my gap year is so boring

It was a good place to vent while sitting on waitlists and reapplying, but I also think I'm going to give it up, as well as Facebook.

I'm only volunteering now, so I have a lot of downtime that needs to be killed by panicking about Step 1, having nightmares about SOAPing, and thinking of ways I'll screw up residency and fellowship interviews. SDN helps with that neurosis. 😳

I probably won't post much anymore. When I do it will be limited to the school specific page of my school, maybe this class thread occasionally and the allo thread when I have questions.

Hopefully people still post in this thread periodically. It'll be cool to see how everyone does over the course of med school.

Hahaha i wont give it up but I will become less frequent. I think back to when I started this journey, there were so many people who helped me learn how to actually go about applying to med school. Now that I have been accepted I feel that I should stick around and help out when I can.

As of right now, I quit my job and just stay home chilling out all day. I have SDN mobile so I get alerts about posts all day. Naturally, being bored, I just chill out and post on the forums, wait eagerly for school to start, hang with my fam and exercise haha

Glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with culinary temptations. Enjoyed a butter- slathered soft pretzel today with two chocolate truffles.

In terms of exercise, has anyone tried that P90X thing? I bought first year of college, used it once, got such severe muscle aches that I couldn't and forgot about it. I think I'll try it again. I've heard too many docs say they put on twenty pounds first year of med school. :scared:

If you go at P90x again, try a couple days of light exercise the week before you start to ease in. Im actually pretty impressed by the program although I've never used it. Their body sculpting strategies are actually based on scientific principles instead of quick fix nonsense. A lot of their reasoning coincided with things I learnt while I was getting my movement science degree. Go for it!

P90X works, though you do have to stick to the schedule. It sucks at the beginning but you just have to power through.

I am getting an exercise bike and am going to ride it slowly while studying. That should be a good way to study/be active.

I honestly don't get how med students listen to lectures at 2X. My profs sounded like chipmunks on a caffeine high when I tried to listen to my lectures with this. 1.5X is only semi- normal.

I had a system where I went to lecture, took notes on the Powerpoint, and then watched it later on 2x speed to solidify the material. 2x speed is perfect for me, because I think everyone talks slow.

Yeah, especially when you're reviewing and not hearing it for the first time.

I used to skip lecture, listen to podcasts at regular speed while pausing and taking notes, and then re-read my outlines / re-writing notes on scratch paper to help solidify what I'd learned. That system worked really well for me, but I'm not quite sure how I'm going to approach med school yet.
