It's 110 degrees outside right now. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

And by planet, I mean this part of the country. Thankfully I'm moving 400 miles away in a few weeks...

...to an area equally as hot 🙁

Also sorry for not being here but the previous question about July. My orientation starts next Monday

Sent from my Galaxy S4

Other than my name change, no. Lol

Congrats on the move!!! Apartment?
LoL, wow! I have no idea who you are!

Nope, I moved into the medical frat house ($350 a month, all inclusive and 2 blocks from our classes and hospitals).
I gotta get on that & see what the application cycles for summer research look like. Some of those things give nice stipends! :naughty:
Indeed they do! I'm hoping to go overseas.
sack up, pansy
+1
 Nice!

Guero returns, while Juan Solo and mcloaf are in the shadows.

The posts. These debates.

I've come to the conclusion that SDN is poison for my tiny little brain. :-/

My goal is to lose 10 pounds (and 20 mm Hg of my bp) by the time medical school starts.

Can I do it?

Wrapping up a weekend jaunt to Vegas.

@Guero & @Ellie we should chat about summer activities. I'll PM you.

Saw world war z with the wife. I thought it was awesome!

So I want your input guys. I've been thinking about this white coat ceremony. Don't get me wrong, I'm really pumped up to get something that shows all the work I've put in so far, but do any of you kind of think the schools are just trying to make is feel important? (like giving a little kid a dollar to buy an ice cream cone lol) I mean, at my school we recite an oath (not hippocratic) and get our jackets but I wonder how ridiculous the professors and older students think it is. Maybe I'm thinking too much lol

It's the equivalent of convocation for undergrad. It's a symbolic celebration of you taking another step into your education and/or life. Whether or not is "means" anything to anyone is on a person to person basis.

For me, it's not that big of a deal. As a first generation college grad, my parents want to be there to see the fruits of my labor and, by extension, the fruits of their labor for being able to immigrate from the home country to seek out a better life for their progeny.

tl;dr: It's a great photo op.

Haha! Thats kind of where I'm at. I'm actually kind of embarrassed by the whole thing because I realize I have soo much to learn and don't really feel like I've earned it yet. You are right about the parents thing though. Mine sacrificed a lot to get me where I am so they are pretty pumped. If nothing else I'm glad it will be a proud moment for them (and me to a lesser extent)

Yes you can! Diet and exercise. Will be hard at first, but it will be worth it. If I can do it, anyone can. #truth

The WCC is a relatively new ritual, but it's become a rite of passage among healthcare professionals. It marks a transition. I am excited about it because it's a symbol that validates all of the hard work we put into getting to that point. Also, I'm a first gen college student and ill be the first (only) physician in my entire family. I wouldn't want to deprive them of seeing me take that step. They are as proud as I am, and I am doing every bit of this for them as well.

Thinking about starting a med school blog... Sounds like a lot of work, though.

I'm not the most creative writer, but I like to practice. Lol. I've had my blog since MCAT studying. Can't post here because it has my name, etc. I'm looking forward to reading yours! Anyone else plan on doing this?

Good morning everyone!

This is the only perk of not having the white coat ceremony until the end of year 2. I totally know what you feel like because I have those same thoughts.

We know nothing about medicine (at least, most of us don't) and I don't want people to confuse me as being a doctor. It is one of the same reasons why I don't like to wear medical school clothing. What happens if I come across a huge accident? All I can do is say, "Call 911" and then do CPR.

I hate that people are already asking me for medical advice and I feel like having a picture of me in a white coat is going to make things a lot worse.

Ah don't be embarrassed. Everyone will know your an MS1 and lack all forms of meaningful knowledge 😛

Does anyone else's school give out full length white coats to medical students? Because Pritzker does and that seems kinda weird. I was actually looking forward to the short white coat, I don't want people thinking I am a doctor.

I love when I had an EMT license and my friends would be like: "OK what would do if XXXX happened!?"

"Call 911...." over and over.

Wow thats interesting. I don't think ours could be any shorter lol

This. Geez i can't stand that lol people will come up and ask pretty advanced questions and I'm just lost lol

That tl;dr thread..

Also, the whole white coat thing is pretty much a nonissue for me. If you don't know, you don't know - people can judge you for being useless at times, but what can you do? All good things in time. If we were already proficient in medicine, why go to medical school? 😛
