Renal?Ugh, renal. The struggle is real!

Renal?
Oh I got you. Cardio-renal-pulm was our last block. I've been okay, head and neck anatomy is mixed into our GI-endo-repro block and it's a bit of a killer. That's the block we're in now. How you been bruh?
Hated renal so much. Never want to hear about ions again. That's the block we're in now. How you been bruh?
In what capacity are you learning endocrine?Holy crap I hate endocrinology. Anyone have any advice/tips? Any outside resources that can make learning this stuff less agonizing?
My main outside resource for endo/repro has been beer...Holy crap I hate endocrinology. Anyone have any advice/tips? Any outside resources that can make learning this stuff less agonizing?

Interesting. Our blocks usually last a month to a month and a half. Starting them in just about a week with blood & lymph first followed by neuro. We have two weeks of endocrine in between GI and reproduction. I find it at least semi-interesting, but I'm getting slammed with minutiae. I think I just have to suck it up and pull a study marathon this week.
I heard you guys have bigger blocks. Do you like the bigger blocks?
Haven't had it in med school yet, but in undergrad, drawing out flowcharts of the hormones and downstream effects helped. We have two weeks of endocrine in between GI and reproduction. Yikes, that sounds gross. We get "X comes from Y when Y is stimulated by Z," unless there's some particulars that are worth stressing in a particular pathway.Oh yeah, I've been doing a lot of that. It would be great if we just had to know what a lot of these hormones did, but we've been getting lectured on how every single one is synthesized and the name of every enzyme involved in synthesizing them. I think the real problem is that some PhDs tend to present waaaay too much detail, because they're experts in whatever they're lecturing on. It's especially true for anything biochem/endocrine related. Instead of a useful overview we've been getting everything in unnecessary detail. Previous blocks have been great, but this block is a nightmare.

Idk, the way I learned it in undergrad was in the context of disease and pharmacotherapy. In any case, maybe try asking some upper years what the pertinent information is?Yeah exactly. If there were a reason to go into more detail (maybe a common disease is caused by enzyme X and another one by enzyme Y), I would understand. But unless I'm really missing the big picture (and I'm not), we're basically just getting lectured on a bunch of unnecessary minutiae.
I think I'll try the coping mechanism you suggested.

On SDN or real life?Man I got trolled hard today...and I sort of liked it.

Epic thread.
I missed the part where the OP revealed her sex so I was left just thinking the person was a jerk and hoping they don't end up in med school.Check the now closed "Unbearable Regret" thread in pre-allo, and the subsequent apology thread (also now locked).
Hah yeah. I'm realizing that streaming all my lectures from home leaves me way too much time to spend arguing with premeds.

We had our home team win the Super Bowl on Sunday, a test yesterday, patient interview on Friday and then another test on Monday. I could use a freakin break, even though I go to the gym multiple times per week.I've fallen into a similar trap.. though my newfound free time has been spent on Hulu. Studying so much less than before still gives me some anxiety.
Honestly, I can't even relate to these types of tumblr posts anymore...

Edit: I forgot, but we are also going to have a quiz on Monday for musculoskeletal in addition to our test in immuno, biochem and cellular physiology. Life will suck until next Tuesday.
Yeah I pretty much have time for everything I want to do and it's quite a double-edged sword. A lot more free time means I need to manage my time better.. and time management is not something I've ever been good at. I'm about 200 pages behind on lectures right now and our test is coming up on Tuesday.
Life was so much easier last semester (hah) when all I did was go to lecture and study. Strange how that worked out.
On the bright side, snow day today.
Snow day sounds nice. We had them cancel classes last week for -40 with wind chill, but they just sent us a link to last year's lectures.

Same. They did it again today 🙁.
Snow days don't exist anymore. They did the same thing to us last week.

So there is a slight chance I may be asked to help out with interviews tomorrow. Problem is I have no clue what would be some good things to ask interviewees! I know I should just use questions I was asked on the interview trail, but I don't really remember them now that I'm trying to memorize every drug in existence. Ok, just antibiotics.
Still, any advice you all could offer would be appreciated.

Good idea! ThanksPull some questions from the interview feedback page!
That's pretty good advice. ThanksIt's easy. You don't need to ask them anything if you don't want to. I just hang out with applicants - play the arcade games, ping pong, get lunch, etc. If they have an interview, then they look good on paper. I just interview them to see if they're not a dick and generally sociable.
I've only had one really bad interviewer. He wasn't a dick, but he was incredibly awkward at every moment even after 30 minutes. I got bored, so I asked generic interview questions cause the conversation stopped - "why do you want to be a doctor?" His response: "Respect."
On a side note, I lost points on my SP interview because I didn't ask safety screening questions like "do you look both ways before crossing the street?" - my SP was a 50 year old man.
