Class Of 2018!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Lol I think you don't have to worry if you've actually done that many hours.

Haha I'm just curious about stuff like research. Because 20 hrs/week for a year is about 1000 hours, but I'm closer to 3000 hours, at least in one lab. I feel like that's a substantial difference in time spent at research.

A tip: usually hour-counts don't matter too much. There's a difference between 30 hours and 300 hrs, and then another step up into the 1000 hours. The hour count is just to measure the level of commitment and how "significant" an experience is in shaping who you are. 1000 vs 3000 hrs--ehhh. adcoms will know this means you were heavily committed, over a long period of time, and that's whats important. It helps frame the experience when they read your short description

1 AMCAS application and 15 additional schools: $685.
Up to 16 secondaries: I don't even want to know.
The hope that at least one of these schools will accept you: Priceless.

There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's student loans.

btw, 5/6 LORs in the bag, 👍

$685 for 16 schools, I don't know how I'm gonna do this 🙁

I mean yeah, that's true. And of course, how you talk about an activity and what you learned >>> time spent. I just wish we could give an accurate justification of all our time in college, because it's not like I was sitting around doing nothing for those extra 2000 hours, which is a significant amount of time. Ditto for the time I've spent running.

Wow, this thread just got super active. Time to order those transcripts!

Same here, all 5 of them -__________-

Ah. Thank God I only have one.

Going to stop by the Registrar today with the request form. Handing in a paper LOR request form to my other prof since he never checks his email.

All going to plan~

Finished all sections except

1. course work
2. work/activities
3. medical schools
4. essays

Top!

Instead of music, here's some funnies:

So basically all the important sections :meanie:

As for me, the whole not getting FAP has really put a damper on things. Not sure what to do really

I'm using Interfolio for my letters, do I have to make the LOR profiles in the AMCAS section?

Yes, cause you still have to send you letters to AMCAS. Only a few schools will let you send letters directly to them from interfolio.

I need to contact my school's committee to find out when my letter packet will be ready.

In other news, not completely thrilled to be studying for the MCAT again today, but it's gotta happen, so I'll be studying relentlessly. 🙂

I'm also going to set a goal to complete all my work/activity descriptions this week. And possibly have decent drafts of my most meaningful essays. I feel like the next couple of weeks are going to breeze by.

Wow, converting my transcript request form into a pdf took me way longer than I'm willing to admit. 😳 Jeeze, sometimes the easiest things feel like rocket science.

Stupid AMCAS. Typed an entire activity description, looked up contact information, etc... Then it brings up their auto-logout message and somehow completely deletes my activity since it wasn't saved yet. Wonderful 🙄

was hoping that they still had my information from my 2012 AMCAS. Funny enough, the information is still in the 2013 AMCAS even though I never filled it out.

You seem to have had a rough couple of days so here's a little something that might cheer you up 😀

just what i needed while studying for a midterm and filling out AMCAS

I am NOT looking forward to putting in my 2394573942 courses into AMCAS

Dude! You've been in school forever! I only had 48.

I couldn't agree more!

It'll be like 80 once I put in my postbac work. Really wish I could take away like 10 of those classes, but I was totally unaware at the time that AMCAS would be taking ALL my classes (or that I'd want to go into medicine), even though I essentially started over at one point.

Just finished filling in course ...

Quick question though. Got some credit for research. Should I classify it as a "Lab only" class? It's not really a lecture ... nor a lab ... lol

what does it appear as on your transcript? If you have an unofficial transcript to go by just put it down as that. I remember putting my research down as a class cause that's how it appeared in my transcript.

I put lab only for research credits. I think it's most accurate.
Edit: but I see how SS's comment makes sense.

For the guys who mastered the MCAT, did you work by yourself or did you have a study group? Studying for this thing again by myself is driving me crazy and it's only day one.

It shows up as "UNDERGRAD RESEARCH"

I've put it as a lecture only for now.

I did it by myself. I used S2Ned's schedule, which helped a lot. I might have worked for me since I'm more of a self-studier. Although, MCAT doesn't really seem like study group type material. Nothing really you can argue over, such like I do with my neurobio study group.

Iono ... there could be ways you could group study. Always helps when one person understands the explanation and can explain to others. But make sure you have lots of give and take. Don't just be a taker. Explaining a concept helps A LOT when it comes to studying I think.

But for you, it was your verbal that was weak, wasn't it? I would just say just practice practice practice and read read read. Read the Times or WSJ. Practice SAT verbal. Practice GRE verbal. Practice TOEFL verbal. Just practice anything verbal that'll will help you get done with speed and critical thinking!

If y'all repeated any of your AP courses that you got credit for, did you include both AP and college course on your AMCAS?

Also, good luck everyone! I'll be active on this thread and try my best to help.
