I can't imagine being a fan of scotch but not the peaty ones. Like, what's the point?? I'll take ardbeg or laphroag any day. But of course, the good ones cost a lot :/
Yeah I feel like you can get a pretty good bottle of american bourbon/rye/whiskey for ~$25, but scotch doesn't get mid range until the $40+. Evan Williams single barrel is a favorite of mine, sazerac rye when i can find it.

Because they're delicious? I like some peat but laphroaig tastes like a chimney smells... I get why people like that, but it's like IPAs...at a certain point you lose the flavor because hops/peet.

They killed off one of my favorite characters 🙁 RIP, _____

I'm really enjoying this season though.

Do you think its back to being as good as season 1? Obviously it's better than the mess of seasons 2 + 3, but I still think season 1 of homeland was on a whole other level. One of the best stretches of TV I have ever seen in my life.

I enjoyed Season 2. Season 3 was kinda subpar, but I liked how they used Carrie's condition as part of an operation. That was actually very innovative.

So far, this season might be my favorite. It's great that they're using US/Pakistan relations as part of the story. I enjoy shows that are based on Cold War-era conflicts and this season certainly has those themes. The embassy stuff (and possible coup?) are likely derived from the Iranian Revolution/hostage crisis of 1979. And of course, there are the rogue characters on both sides of the conflict. Again, it's fascinating because a lot of this stuff has happened IRL over the past 30 years or so.

Are you an Alias fan?! You should check it out if you haven't already. The first 3 seasons are mind blowing.

No I haven't heard of Alias! I'll definitely check it out. Is it homeland-esque?

If you're a huge TV guy (like me) and want more underground, quality shows, I suggest The Knick on Cinemax. It's super great for premeds especially, since the show is all about Surgery in the 1800's. And it stars the always awesome Clive Owen!

I know this is a stretch..but are there any Survivor fans on here? Yes...that survivor. The reality show about contestants on an island.

For those that haven't watched it, check it out! Its super strategic, like a chess reality show. And it has all the drama/humor you need to really get addicted. I recommend watching season 20, heroes vs villains, to get started. Easily my favorite season of television of all time.

I actually enjoyed the Survivor episodes I've watched-lol. I haven't seen many though.

Alias is a sci-fi spy thriller. It stars Jennifer Garner and Ron Rifkin plays the main villain. And I believe Bradley Cooper got his first big break on this show. It's not like Homeland, but it's immensely entertaining in its own way. Also, each season had 22 episodes, so you're guaranteed at least 60 episodes of sheer enjoyment. I'm almost certain it's on Netflix! Watch the first 2 episodes and tell me what you think!

Oh my gosh I love Survivor. I've watched faithfully since Vanuatu and have gone back to watch a few of the older seasons too. I'm liking this current one so far! Wow yes this is so exciting!!!!

Totally lost when it comes to whiskeys and brews. My friends keep haggling me about UCSD because it's not too far from the Arrogant Bastard/Stone Brewing brewery.... annnnddd I don't like beer (unpopular opinion, I know).

My alcoholic weapon of choice is this lil' beaut, though it does look a bit like a bottle of maple syrup:

Haven't seen any of the TV shows listed... guess I have some serious Netflixing to do for the rest of my gap year!

Another big shoutout to all the recent acceptances! I can't wait until everyone in this thread get their hard-earned acceptance(s)! It's just a matter of time now...

Been working a hard labor job for the past week--it's temporary because I haven't been able to find something better. It's nothing glorious but one has to pay the rent. Then about 10hrs after my last late night shift, I was on my last interview tour. So tired, sleep deprived (my fault, too many Netflix, Peaky Blinder was crazy good btw. ) and I'm falling sick, but nothing breaks my spirit. I am grateful and happy everyday looking forward to some frugal traveling around the world before school and to unfold my ambition and dreams afterwards. I have nothing to complain.

Next 7 days: last 2 interviews at two reach schools. *Possibility* decisions from 4 schools of which 3 are reach schools. Like everybody who has made thus far, there are definitely some (huge) sacrifices and opportunity costs that took place for me to be where I am, but I really feel blessed with good luck this cycle consider how unpredictable it is. Knock on wood!

Talking about beer, I'm a big IPA and Stout/Porter person. Gonna share some Dogfish head world wide stout (19% alcohol) with my Yale host tonight. I've been saving it for several months by now. It was suppose to be Michael Jackson's favorite beer.

Omg you are my new favorite person! I've watched every episode live since Philippines, and have gone back and watched all the good ones! And yes this season is awesome, i just really want Natalie to win or I'll be seriously upset 🙁 last season was AMAAAZZZZINMNG though, one of my favorites of all time!

Do you ever listen to Rob has a Podcast? Its a podcast by rob cesternino from survivor amazon, and he has interviews with players and recaps every episode and more! That podcast is my life haha, I'm listening to one where he recaps last week's episode with Tyson Apostel right now! 🙂🙂

And @Cyberdyne 101 , i definitely will check it out! Winter break is coming up fast, and I made it a goal to sleep a minimum of 10 hours a day and watch Netflix for the other 14 hehe

That's an excellent goal to have 😉

Yes!!!!!!! Oh my gosh this is beyond exciting!!!!! I like Natalie a lot. I think Jon and Keith are really strong players too though.

Last season.... I'm trying to remember! Who was on it? Do you prefer when they cast all new players or bring old players back? I like both -- I think they are really good dynamics. I LOVED the first Blood vs Water a lot, and would really like to see Vytas and Hayden come back. Cochran is probably my favourite player of all time. Ahhhh I love Survivor haha!

I love Rob Cesternino!! I read his blog sometimes. I love Tyson too -- didn't like him very much the first time he played, but seeing another side of him on B vs W was really cool. Great player. I should listen to the podcast!! Did you see Rob's Reality Game Masters Risk game? With Cochran an Sophie? Oh man it was great.

I'm planning to watch all the seasons I missed over winter break. I got a free month trial to CBS and they have every episode ever online. So so so exciting.

Hah yes i saw reality game masters! And definitely listen to the podcast! He has one at least every day and it makes car rides more enjoyable.

For example, i learned from his podcast last week that Sophie...wait for it...goes to med school at Mt. Sinai! She's an Ms1 there right now!

And john and Candice Cody went to med school at Georgetown!

Also, I freaking love Cochran. Him, Cesternino and Russel Hantz are my favorite players by far. I live in La and they have survivor events here all the time, like roasts and bar meetups and stuff, usually organized by Rob. I go with my girlfriend a lot, and we've meet a ton of cool people! I took shots with Tyson and Stephen Fischbach and had like an hourlong conversation with Parvati and Rob haha

Last edit: if you didn't watch last season yet, you HAVE to. Tony Vlachos??? Chaos Kass?? Spencer Bledsoe??! The season had more memorable characters then like the past 5 seasons before it, combined!!

So I started freaking out last night and spent over an hour looking at other degrees and possible careers to do for couple years before re-applying if I don't get in. Nuclear therapy does seem pretty interesting ......... hahaha

Anyways, sent out update letters to all my schools. Hopefully something can come out of it. :xf:

Wait Sophie was totally a med student several years ago when she was on the show! I knew she was at Sinai also. Weird that she's only an MS1 now though!

I knew they were doctors but didn't know where they went! I really like both John and Candice.

Ohhhh yessss ok I just forgot which season that was! Spencer is one of my very very favourites too. Oh my god Chaos Kass.... Not a favourite hahaha Tony was great but I liked Spencer better. I want Spencer to come back on another season!!

Relax dude. You only need one acceptance and this cycle is far from over. If anything, it's better to enjoy yourself as much as possible while waiting.

Had my third interview today and just didn't feel like I fit in there. Other interviewees were very different from my other two groups and felt closed off.

I think I blew the second interview since there was a window and I couldn't help but stare out. I told my interviewer that I felt like a puppy. Tried my best to keep it together because I don't have any acceptances and this could be it...

Also, the lunch was a tiny salad and I was so hungry the entire time...

Salad would have sealed the deal for me 😉

All this TV talk and I'm just sitting here studying for finals in classes I haven't been to since September. Whoops. Well the first one, with all the awful math, is over at least...

yeah but like you rocked your last psych exams so you'll be fine 🙂

Well then I hope you applied to quinnipiac...

I liked Hofstra a LOT more. Wish I could have switched the interview order :/

There were so many attractive women at quinnipiac though. All those allied health field students lol.

You have UMass coming up still, don't get so down just yet.

Not really down yet as I have Umass, Einstein, and Miami, i.e. my three top ones of my II's. However, there's something to be said for keeping your head in the game even if it is a trip made for 'practice'. The school really pushes primary care, the rotations haven't been decided yet, etc. Too much up in the air for my comfort. So I knew it wouldn't be a great fit to begin with. I loved the enthusiasm, but I'm not interested in being 300k in debt for an unproven experiment.

Edit: That awkward moment that you realize that you had really good answers to a lot of questions when you drunk wrote your secondaries. Maybe you (aka me) should read them again...

Heyyyy I don't like beer either! My boyfriend on the other hand loves whiskey and has convinced me to like it 🙂 still I much prefer girly drinks.

They still have survivor?

Wheeeee I only have one final and it's not cumulative. It's also on Friday so I should probably start studying soon...

@ridethecliche one thing – which is really hard to do – but you have to kind of divorce your impressions of the school from the experiences you have with other interviewees. I had some really lacklustre interviewee groups and I feel they negatively coloured my impression of the school, even though they had nothing to do with the institution. I'd go back and reread all the school had to offer and would be like "this place sounds awesome. I loved the students, interviewers, and staff. Why didn't I enjoy myself that day?"

Alternatively, I've had kickass interviewee groups at schools I was probably not a good fit at, but would look back upon the interview day with a bit of a rosy tint.

But weak salads are inexcusable.

Best of luck with your next three! (Enjoy the wintertime weather in Miami 😉) I suspect you'll have some good news right around the bend!

@ProbablyAPenguin I am the queen of fancy girly drinks. The only time I can tolerate whiskey is when it's drowned in Pama and lime juice (sounds like an odd combo, but don't judge).

Mine is Wednesday so slightly more pressing 😉 But it is also Intro Psych with first years who don't know how to college soo. I'm glad you are joining me in this final engineering & technology life though

They still have survivor?

Haha yes! Season 29 is currently airing, and they are already producing season 30 which is set to air in February!

Now is a great time to get into it..so many good seasons are on iTunes and according to @sunflower18, on the CBS app too.

I love it because its a lot easier to get into then a normal show. Its reality tv so its a fun guilty pleasure, but it's also an extremely strategic game with a lot of moves, blindsides and crazy tactics being performed every week. Several Harvard students wrote their theses about survivor! In fact, one of them actually went on to actually compete in the show and did very well for himself 😉

I guess this is why second look is important, but I feel like interview groups are indicative-ish of the kind of students schools want to attract. I didn't get a good feeling from quinnipiac in general because I felt like everything was saying "yes, you'll be a doctor, but temper your expectation for what you'll go into because we're limited in what we offer."

I work at one of the best hospitals in the country, so I'm spoiled, but the people I work with believe in me and I can't see myself at a place that doesn't.

Well, they invited you – so you have to remind yourself that whomever they wanted to interview must be inherently awesome. 😉 You're right... I think second look is key for these things.

That's probably due to a triple-whammy: 1) Qu-Pac is primary care oriented, 2) Qu-Pac is a new school, and 3) Qu-Pac is not in a major metropolitan area. But it's good to be aware of these things; always think towards the future and what your goals may require.

Agreed. It doesn't help that I was a patient at one of their affiliated sites and the guys misdiagnosed me and caused my problems to get much much worse.

That said, I was using the interview for practice and I just couldn't keep it together.

Ugh... I fly to WV tomorrow and woke up sick as a dog this morning. I've got congestion, sinus pain, sore throat etc. and my interview is Thursday afternoon.

I know I remember seeing a few posts way back from others who interviewed while sick but I can't seem to find them with the search function. Any tips or suggestions for products that helped you guys through interviews?

I hope everyone's week is starting out better than mine! Haha

+1 on interviewing sick.

It was easier to interview injured on wheel chair since my brain worked just fine. But with a flu I feel like it's going to be so hard to think straight

Finding a comfortable place to rest (and some good meals) should be your priority at the moment. And of course, you have to be as calm as possible. You'll perform better if you're well rested and relaxed.

You'll rock this 😉

Got me through my day at feinberg, I feel your pain. Go for the severe.

Guess who's interviewing sick again today lol. Try using Alka Seltzer. Above all else, keep a positive attitude and don't let your sickness define you for that day!

Don't get down about interviewing sick! The only school I've been accepted to so far was the one I interviewed sick at -___-. 1 WL and still awaiting 2 decisions 🤔

At a recent interview one of the deans asked what kept us up at night... answers included health inequality, health literacy, etc etc etc.

I said... caffeine before going into my answer. Booyah!

Thank you all so much! I work full time and this morning when I got to work my supervisor told me to take a half day to go home and rest this afternoon, even though I took tomorrow-Friday off for my interview haha. I think she's just as excited for my interview as I am! I plan to sleep as much as possible over the next 48 hours and I think I'll take @jsquared91 's advice about the dayquil. I'm hoping some afrin nasal spray will also help right before the interview to clear things up a bit so I *hopefully* sound normal haha.

@Cyberdyne 101 you are always so encouraging! I think I speak for everyone here when I say we are so thankful to have you in this thread!!! 🙂
@Ace Khalifa so sorry to hear you're sick again! best of luck to you today! You'll rock it! :highfive:
@Sandmeezy, congrats on the acceptance! I hope you hear some more good news soon! 🙂

Thanks man! It's for a DO school and I got it early October haha, fingers crossed for an MD acceptance as well, appreciate it!

Sending a boatload of good vibes your way @Ace Khalifa! You got this! Nothing like interviewing on your home turf (albeit not your alma mater... but close enough in terms of location).

Truth. However, had I received this question during my interview cycle, I would have selfishly answered "My lack of acceptances."
