Wow! Congrats @Ace Khalifa!!
I'm happy I clicked on this thread!

(Omg, that doctivism thread :bang:...)
You and @ridethecliche should stop posting in that thread. Derm's not going to give you an answer (yes, I've been reading along) for white privilege, nor is he going to address systemic racism against African-Americans at all. He's just a natural cynic who is most likely upset that most incoming and current medical students are now liberal and fighting for the right side of justice.

When compared to the Doctivism train-wreck this thread is brimming with puppies, sunshine, an ample supply of Taylor Swift photos, unconditional support, and unlimited comfort food. I like it here. 😍

I just don't get why people can't have a civilized discussion. I've learned loads of stuff with these forums, but there doesn't seem to be much intelligent dialogue regarding social justice issues. You can't get more than two posts without someone screaming "straw man!," refusing to answer a direct question, or making a snarky, irrelevant comment. Oh wait. This is the internet I'm talking about here.

shoutout to @Cyberdyne 101 also for your posts in the doctivism thread. I agree with others on here though, arguing with someone like that has absolutely no value!
Good thing that that kind of thinking and cynicism is slowly becoming obsolete in the medical community, as evidenced by the die-ins today!!

Following @sunflower18 into this thread is easily one of the best decisions I've made in a while 😀

Thank you!! Obviously, the medical community needs to be trusted by the most marginalized groups.

And btw, I love your diagonal penguin!!!

He just blocked me. This is hilarious.

I just really wanted to know what white privilege was!
I can attempt to explain what white privilege is since it's brought up all the time at Wash U, but that would take awhile...and lol blocking you means he gave up and ran out of snarky arguments.

Haha i know what it is. I was just certain he didn't believe in it which is why anything we said was incommensurable.

I've been similarly surprised at how every single argument devolves into a ticky-tacky argument over who-made-which-logical-fallacy. It's a deep shame that some members would so much rather try to poke holes in the logical flow of an internet post, rather than actually digest the message that is being conveyed. It's as though a few members are playing this secret game in which the objective is to find the most (minor) issues in others' arguments. For all their wisdom and experiences in other areas, I've noticed that a few of the more "senior" posters take a certain amount of pleasure in diminishing an opponents "argumentation strategy," a practice best left to debate club and dysfunctional relationships. Frankly, their habitual, incessant "nit-picking" is every bit as "derailing" to a thread as a full-blown troll is. But at least trolls don't continually revert to this self-righteous "I know more than you do because I'm a real doctor now." It's a lazy disguise for an inability to digest a contradictory viewpoint, and I'm glad that so few are fooled by it.

EDIT: Sorry @Silverflash , I won't say another word 😛

Agree 100%. You summed my feelings up more concisely than I ever could.

And extra apologies, Silverflash. We'll return to your regularly scheduled broadcasting now. Oh, look! A puppy!

I am going to be exactly like this dog tomorrow morning. I don't want to deal with a 7 am meeting -___- (and LA traffic, a lot of rain, the looming fear of JHU decisions, so on and so forth...).

Hella you share the best stuff! I love puppy of large breeds, especially the black ones! This video will be treasured!
I feel you about morning! As of now I am comfortably hiding under two thick comforters to avoid getting up (been wanting to go to the bathroom ugh...)
Best luck to us! Today might be big but I have no faith now gagghhhhh

That's a shame. White privilege does exist; anyone who denies its existence is either racist, ignorant, or just plain cruel.

I don't have an opinion on white privilege, but I'd just like to congratulate you on making it through an entire post without mentioning the fact that you went to Wash U in St. Louis.

Thanks! Haha I'm weird. Even though I mentally wasn't nervous for my exam, my body still reacted like it was!

I'm not in school anymore, but I can definitely relate.

Me: OK I got this, I'm as prepared as I can be.
BODY: GO GO GO, TEST TIME, ANXIETY
Me: Lol, no thats ok Body, really, we're gonna be just fine.
BODY: JITTERS, AND YA GOTTA USE THE BATHROOM!

My life in a nutshell.

On a somewhat similar note, I remember in August when IIs were first coming out, I'd always be super keen on checking my phone/email first thing in the morning. Then that habit (thankfully) died down until just recently. I think it's just Wash U that's potentially sending a round of decisions soon (other schools of later, set dates like U Pitt, or already passed me over with silence like NYU), but I'm still eager/nervous about it.

And this is why musicians and other performers can be prescribed beta blockers (eg Proplanolol) to temper the physical symptoms of anxiety (slows heart rate) which allows your mental processes more control.

Haha, the worst is when you study for weeks and feel super ready for the exam. Then when you get to the first question you're like...

Love this thread.

Just found out that the two schools that are currently my top choices (of my accepted options) have the same second look weekend.... Noooo 🙁

I've been wondering about this... What happens now? Do you attend half of both? Is that allowed? Does anyone know what the norm is?

I have no idea. Would love insight, though! I'm really bummed since I was banking on the second look weekends to help me choose.

Same issue here! My strategy has been to try and get as many of my questions answered as possible before I have to decide which revisit to go to.

I happened to be in the area of one of the schools recently. I emailed a helpful admissions staff member and asked to meet with a third- or fourth-year student (I hadn't met any on my interview at that school). They were happy to accommodate me, and even seemed to be used to this sort of informal revisit.

THANK YOUUUUU. (NGL, kind of a whole mess of feels at the moment). This is just unreal. Good luck to @ProbablyAPenguin and @onceawolverine, though I'm pretty sure their apps were a slam dunk.
I can't think of a better time for someone to get cocky/prideful. And yet, your kindness transcends even the most heroic of accomplishments. Hopkins is lucky to have you.

You are a remarkable person, Wolverine. I know whatever school you decide to attend is going to increase is merit just due to your presence.

Well, when you expect an outright rejection, an acceptance really takes the wind out of you. I did get food poisoning, torrential rain, and a 3-hour commute this morning (oh, and some punks stole my office succulent 🙁) so I guess the universe just wanted to even out the "meh" in my day. And I couldn't be happier. Maybe this is karma for trying to support my comrades in the doctivism thread haha.

Got my fingers still crossed for all waiting. :luck: I really want to meet y'all!

If that was supposed to be an insult, it was a rather poor attempt lol. I am proud of my alma mater; so what?

I think my first interview school has now put my application in the crazy pile...

Perhaps this is an odd question, but I was recently accepted into med school and was wondering if there was anything that I should get for Christmas in preparation for med school?

@jsquared91 Holy smokes. It's a thing of beauty... all that ricotta cheese. And free? Where's my ticket to NYC?

Gosh, @sunflower18 you are the best. Everyone send her good vibes for her pending CCLCM decision, whenever it may creep out over the next week or so. We're rooting for you!

Wow, @hellanutella!!!! That is simply amazing!!!

They definitely need someone like you!!!

Hahaha oh my god, everyone's been making such stereotypical Baltimore jokes now. Heard it's an excellent show, but I haven't seen it. Guess I'll have to treat myself to some marathoning this winter.

And I hope everyone has a restful weekend. Catchup on last minute gift-hunting. Make yourselves some delicious, calorically-irresponible food (like peppermint bark or a nutellasanga 😉). Try your best to remove all app-cycle worries from your mind.

If you ever watch The Wire, you'll see why I posted a pic from the 4th season.

And thank you for sharing your thoughts in the doctivism thread! I come from a very disadvantaged background and it's refreshing to see that some people actually care about marginalized groups.

Congrats again on Hopkins and I hope you feel well enough to enjoy some desserts this weekend!!
