Haha I would've been spending this last semester taking interesting courses, however if I just take the 1 more class I need to graduate it would save me around 5k in loans. Y'all are lucky 😛

LOL I had enough of that crap after 7 semesters. I only needed to complete an advanced bio lab to graduate. Why would I burn myself out with taking difficult classes my last semester?
 
I was going to take bio chemistry too but I decided to download the free course. I also bought a usmle review book
 
You can find free classes online. Just google it. It's called biochem free and easy.

Seems we have different definitions for "fun" classes lol. Immunology at my school is an intense 400 level bio class; not something people would take "for fun." Same goes for biochem 1 and 2.

I graduated in 2013 and I took a graduate level psychology class for architects this past fall semester lol. It was an adventure but I survived. I lost count how many papers I wrote on environmental psychology. -__-

Hmm... Immuno at our school is one of the "easier" upper level biology classes (though not a walk in the park).
Cell bio and biochem are considered intense upper level classes.

Yeah, I took tough liberal arts classes and a few upper level bio courses for fun. I actually liked learning the stuff.

And immunology was awesome.

/shrug.

Oh gosh, I completely agree. I conveniently don't come from any of the ethnic groups/geographic locations that have special scholarships. And no Civil War vets in my family tree... The sad thing about some scholarships is that they can require so much luck/chance. My boss's employer has several full-ride scholarships that children of employees can apply to, which ended up footing their eldest kid through undergrad + grad school. The business my other boss worked for would extend full-tuition coverage to the children of executives who reached a certain level in the company. (Which was crazy, because the people who reached that level were making more than enough money to begin with). Ugggh. The most I got from my parents' (scholarship-less) employer was some free stickers at an open house event.

One more day of work before I go on my 2.5 weeks trip~ I am excited. 6 days of Cali. 10 Days of DC. 3 days of Ann Arbor. Fun fun fun
 
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I'm guessing the prevailing wisdom ITT is that I'll be doing senior year wrong if I take 5 classes + senior essay? lol

Wash U immunology is taught at the level of med school difficulty. Wash U biochem is notorious across the country for being insanely difficult. Wash U cell bio is straight memorization, so fairly easy for me. It depends on the school, I guess.

I wanted to enjoy one last semester of free time and debauchery before becoming a serious student again in med school. Because that's what it takes to match into a competitive specialty lol.

Don't most med schools teach you biochemistry or at least incorporate it into their curriculum? If that's the case and you will be learning it eventually I would say try and enjoy the remaining time you have as an undergrad as much as you can. Speaking as someone who graduated already your undergrad experience will be some of the best times you can have without the responsibility of having work or whatever so enjoy it while you can. Also I have some friends in med shool who basically told me biochem in undergrad didn't help them at all in med school, although I guess it depends on the individual. I guess you'll do what you want and of course I am not an expert and this whole rant is just my $0.02
 
Side note: Did interview prep with my boss today. It was freaking awful.

I have no stock answers. I hate them. I hate lazy questions.

I need to suck it up.

Anybody got any food recommendations in SD, LA, DC, Baltimore, Detroit, (possibly Chicago), or Ann Arbor? I'm pretty much traveling to eat. :ninja:

It's super touristy, but I highly recommend stopping by Ben's Chili Bowl in DC at least once.

In Chicago, any place you can an authentic Chicago hot dog is a good place. Just be careful if you want to go to The Wieners Circle. Read some reviews and make sure you know what you're getting into. Wherever you go, just remember not to blemish your dog's beauty with ketchup.

I can't comment much on the other places.

When I tried to ask my parents to give me their financial info for FAFSA, they basically told me "Don't even waste your time, you're not gonna qualify for any aid, we'll pay for everything just like we did for undergrad, med school better have a pay monthly tuition option because it will be harder to pay yearly tuition upfront."

I did actually try a Chicago dog at O'hare (cause I forgot to try it during my interview last year at RFU ...). I liked it. Really want to try a non-airport one though. haha

I can comment on almost any restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor. Anything specific you're looking for?

Einstein was honestly one of my favorite schools and interviews (and coincidentally the only school I've written a review for) haha. It was a typical hour long interview. Mostly about me and my application. I did get asked "Why Einstein?" but not "Why medicine?". Few to none ethical or behavioral questions. But that may have just been my situation. The only thing that was amusing was that I interviewed with a psychiatrist so I got," Tell me about your relationship with your parents and siblings?" But overall it was phenomenal. They are super friendly and happy there. If you have time definitely look around because it is a gorgeous area of the Bronx.
