I wonder if on some subconscious level watching scrubs (first few seasons only) made me want to be a Dr. lol. I thought about (but later decided against) saying that as a joke for "why medicine" in an interview.

As silly as that show was, I think it's done the best job of showing the reality of training and being a physician: from the struggles to the successes. I want to rewatch it lol.

I feel like such a creep, I've been following this thread for the last month or so, tossing in a like here or there ... so I feel like I should announce myself.

Hello fellow '19-ers! I'm probably going to continue creeping; but at least now I've made my intentions known 🙂

Weren't you accepted to Albany? You can attend the same school that brought us JD.

Jesus christo in a waffle cone, this thread needs a time out corner.

In other news:
  1. It rained in LA and I LOVED it. The traffic was so-so, but then I got to go home and take my dog for a nice long walk through the arroyos while it was drizzling. It felt almost like being in the PNW.... minus the actual trees and greenery haha.
  2. The drought sucks.
  3. On the upside, my cacti and succulents are thriving?
  4. Oh my god, please take that MCAT stuff elsewhere. It's been over a year and a half, but I neither want to see nor speak of that thing again. :dead:
  5. I'm ready for this thread to return back to the warm, fuzzy, supportive place that it's supposed to be. I like taking refuge in this thread because it's so unlike the... other... parts of SDN.

Really?

In any event, I"ll just leave this here:

I'll take one to go please.

@ridethecliche
That's an awesome slogan for Jeff. "HEALTH IS ALL WE DO."

Oh and you NYC-ers will appreciate this, but Trader Joe's has chocolate babka now?!?

It probably isn't "legit" babka, as I found it less bread-like and more like a huge chocolate-stuffed croissanty lasanga (nice description, Nutella) but I couldn't stop eating it. So messy. So chocolaty. So good on a rainy Tuesday.

Before today, I had never heard of this Babka food... and now, I must have it. Almost midnight, and I could really go for some!! 😡 🙁

I've had that before! It's so tasty, perfect with a cup of hot black tea. My stomach is rumbling just thinking about it.

For derm, possibly because the pathologies are more localized? I could be totally wrong though. I'm not sure about neuro. Perhaps @demystifie has an answer. She's a neuro geek!

I think in neuro you learn the necessary IM knowledge alongside the localized neuropathologies (similar to what @Cyberdyne 101 mentioned).

What are your thoughts on cookie butter? It has the same "delicious spread that should be put on something other than a spoon but rarely makes it that far" quality of nutella imo.

Oh via my sports team, most of whom were in a frat together, I had tooooons of access and I shared quite a bit and told everyone I shared with that the condition was they had to pass it on too. I don't find using old tests inherently unfair, because you still have to possess mastery come test day (unless questions are verbatim recycled), I just take issue with how not everyone knows they're out there/can get them if they do. Take away the limited access and it's hunky dory

I feel like deep down if you were asked "if you had access to test answers and knew you couldn't be caught, would you look?" you'd give a very disappointing answer. I wouldn't be mad though, just...disappointed
I find this intriguing. At my alma mater it was considered cheating to use any material that was not available to everyone. So studying old tests that you didn't share would be considered cheating.

Good, you encountered a rare instance of a school recognizing and addressing the problem of limited access exam archives.

is it bad I've never seen a single episode of scrubs?

And by pay my own health insurance... I mean take out even more debt. Woohoo for money trees!

I'm assuming you already have to? :bang::nailbiting:

Yup, I've had to since I graduated due to my parents work situation.

Uhh cookie butter is heavenly.

I think he meant he is not going to Albany, but that is a cool factoid!

Correct. My tour guide didn't tell me that though!

is it bad I've never seen a single episode of scrubs?

Yes. It's turrble.

Go marathon it now in penance.

That is a really cool model. I remember reading somewhere that neurology is in fact an IM subspecialty in the UK. Wikipedia confirms that this is the case (though I don't know what half these words mean):
In the United Kingdom and Ireland, neurology is a subspecialty of general (internal) medicine. After five to nine years of medical school and a year as a pre-registration house officer (or two years on the Foundation Programme), a neurologist must pass the examination for Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (or the Irish equivalent) before completing two years of core medical training and then entering specialist training in neurology.
I wonder if there's some historical reason why neurology isn't considered a subspecialty here.

This might be blasphemous, but I've.... never actually had cookie butter before. 😳 Gotta fix that ASAP.

I bought my friends a whole bunch of speculoos cookie butter filled doughnuts, but they ate all of them before I could sample a piece. Whoops.

Cookie butter is pretty awesome, especially with chocolate-like froyo!

re: the MCAT
A few of us have not taken the MCAT, and I don't see anything wrong with asking about it every now and again. I've actually gotten amazing support (and material) from people ITT, after making an MCAT related post. I mean, we are here to help each other out, right?!

So... anyone else never watched Seinfeld? Feel like watching it just from that brief video posted.
You should! It set the stage for so many current/recent shows. The narcissism of the characters opened up doors for shows like sunny and arrested development. The comedian in new york led to shows like louie. The meta-ness/wierdness/pop culture references allowed community to be great.

I have a dream that one day Ace Khalifa will be able to use the internet without constantly name dropping his alma mater.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but the people that are in the class thread aren't familiar with the new test and the test really isn't on most people's radar.

I think the 'negative' response is more of a shudder response than anyone actually being upset. Like "AHHH THE MCAT I THOUGHT I WAS DONE HEARING ABOUT THAT FOREVVVERRRR!!!"

We've started interviewing candidates for my job and my boss brought up Seinfeld when talking to all the interviewees yesterday.

Then he was like... Wait are you all too young to know what Seinfeld is?

It was pretty hilarious.

Also, dat slap bass!

I work with elementary school aged girls and we were reading a biography about Emma Watson. THEY THOUGHT HARRY POTTER WAS LAME. :diebanana:

I have never read any of the Harry Potter books and have only seen the 1st and 7th movie 😛

Oh my god, my friends played this clip for me once I brought the babka home. Oh, cinnamon babka... the inferior babka.

I have a dream that one day Ace Khalifa will be able to use the internet without constantly name dropping his alma mater.

Yup; the MCAT thing is just a shudder response from me. I have no intention on revisiting that chapter from my life and I feel like any info I have about the test will not translate well to the new format. (Though I definitely can see the utility of soon to be MCAT-takers picking the minds of '19ers).

NO. NO. NO.
While I have lots of fond childhood memories of the Harry Potter films, a large part of me is antsy for the inevitable reboot that will occur 10-20 years down the road. Let's hope they make a long-winded TV series. If each chapter could be come a true-to-the-book hour long episode, I would die happy.

I've wanted cookie butter since this morning thanks to this thread.
And I have no car to go get some.
And it costs 12 dollars on amaazon 🙁

Trader Joe's has these amazing cookie butter cookies and cookie butter cheesecake bites. They are wonderful.

@Leslie_Knope And I believe it is similar to Biscoff spread!

Keep dreaming, son. WUSTL alumni reunion weekend is coming up soon, so I think it's a perfect time to reignite the spark I have for my alma mater. >😀
