re: the MCAT
A few of us have not taken the MCAT, and I don't see anything wrong with asking about it every now and again. I've actually gotten amazing support (and material) from people ITT, after making an MCAT related post. I mean, we are here to help each other out, right?!
if you haven't taken the mc*t then it is highly unlikely you are part of the class of 2019... which is what this thread is. There are endless threads and info and resources for mc*t all over these forums and/or internet world. Feel free to ask any/all questions of such there.

I think many get a disgusting taste in their mouth when you talk of mc*t because they are trying to forget about those dreaded days by dreaming over cookies and cookie butter spreads and foreign vacations... like the old saying goes, "you don't **** where you eat."

I'm glad you're doing "ok." 🙂

I lied.

Better than okay actually. Meeting a friend to go climb at brooklyn boulders! It'll be so raddd!

please tell me in what way i consume these glorious jars of creaminess.... on bread? spread on cookies? pancakes? use like nutella?

keep-calm-and-have-it-your-way-2.png

Also amazing on belgian waffles with nutella and other goodness.

Also also:
Step 1: Pick up spoon.
Step 2: Place into jar of speculoos*
Step 3: Place into jar of nutella
Step 4: Put into mouth
Step 5: Profit.

(Works well with peanut butter instead of speculoos.)

Fun fact, I once referred to speculoos as speculum. My coworkers were very confused...

It's not very nice to exclude @Cyberdyne 101 and myself and a couple others from this thread just because we're not technically in the class of 2019. I know that they have been around and active in this thread for a lot longer than you have. Also, when has this thread ever been on topic? 😵

Show me where I said anything about excluding you or anyone from the thread? I suggested excluding mc*t from the thread... but somehow you twist it to me being not nice and saying you can't be here? Give me a break.... do what you want 👍

You inferred it here:
if you haven't taken the mc*t then it is highly unlikely you are part of the class of 2019... which is what this thread is.
I'm not going to take this any further. I've already made my points...

Anyway, I appreciate the amazing MCAT support I've gotten from 2019ers.

completely out of context... I then said there's never ending mc*t all over the forums. Never wished for you to be forever banished.

Stick around and say what you want, Cyberdyne. I'm grateful to you for your support. I never would have made it if you hadn't written my AMCAS application, adopted my incontinent dog, and married my spinster sister. Thank you.

Don't worry, I won't dampen this discussion with an NYC-weather pic 😉

How is St. Louis weather?!
STL weather is quite bipolar. Sometimes it's nice: a lot of the time it sucks lol.

Sounds a lot like...weather lol. Every place I've lived in the U.S. I've heard people say how crazy their weather is.
I've only lived in New York and the transplants here often say that the weather back home is better, especially if they're from the west coast.

This is going to sound stupid but....

I'm having a really hard time deciding how hard to push for Einstein. For all I know, I won't get off the waitlist but I can't be sure how much effort I want to put into trying.

I feel like I'd want to know the outcome before I left the US, but that's not certain. I also am not sure which way I'd decide if I got in since I'm already in at Jeff. Umass is out if the picture for me unless they give me money. I can't see myself being happy in Worcester after living in Boston for 5 years and having the option to go to Philly.

I hate dealing in hypothetical situations, but i feel like I need to figure out what my decision would be. The likelihood of coming off the Einstein waitlist is really low. I think UMass is a more likely acceptance to be honest. I'd guess 75-80% chance.

Einstein I'd say 5-10%.

Not that it matters a ton, but both Einstein and UMass are higher ranked than Jeff.

My understanding is that Einstein has more of a mission to train folks headed into academic medicine. If that lines up with your career goals, and it sounds like it might be? I'd say it might be worth keeping on. Other than that, I think you'll certainly do no harm by yourself in going to Jefferson.

Would the strength of Jeff's ortho department factor into your decision if you're eventually accepted to the other 2?

I can't remember, are you HPWL at Einstein?

I was in a similar place with Pitt, where I'm 2nd tier. Since the chance is so low and if I did ever get off it'd be so late that the logistics of moving with my SO would be too much. So I decided to not send any updates or LOIs.

Been inactive for a few days and read through the pages I missed :whoa: . I'm glad the e-peen measuring is done for now.

Also, haven't posted here in a while so just wanted to wish you all a great day today. Gloomy here in the derty jerzz but it's all good as once I take my exam there will be Jack Daniel's awaiting me.

I'm also using rank as a proxy for resources with the hope that higher 'ranked' schools well be able to offer the most aid. If umass ends up giving me a significantly larger amount of aid than Jeff (pending acceptance of course), then I'd probably end up there.

Not really, but the strength of their surgical residencies as a whole definitely would. I'm not set on ortho.

I'm on the regular waitlist, which makes this even more moot to be honest. I have support from a few alumni that offered to write letters though, so I'm trying to see how to play that. I might call their office to see what the the historical numbers for the regular wl are. There are a few every year but...

At that point though, I'd probably be abroad and have to figure out housing stuff for Jeff way in advance. If I hear from umass in May then I can actually consider it, but I'd like to have some sort of idea where I'm going before I leave the country.

Like you thought for pitt, I think Einstein is a lost cause but I have some support so I'm thinking about whether I should call in the favor. One of my attending friends went there and her dad was on the faculty, so I feel like her word has some weight.

I can also ask some of the faculty at the program I work at for a letter of support. They've all offered to do it and one of them trained at Einstein. But if I get in and the money isn't right, I'd feel awful for not going if they wrote the letter.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine at Jeff loves it there and Philly is on my short list of cities I'd like to be in.

Regarding the calling in of favors... I got silence from Sinai for a while and was moderately interested in the school. I suspect that if I had called in a favor or two I might have gotten an interview, but I doubt it was going to result in an acceptance, so I didn't try. Yours seems like it might actually result in an acceptance, but I agree I wouldn't call them in if you're not 100% sure you'd pull the trigger.

On an unrelated note I'm rewatching all of the anthony bourdain episodes focused on chicago and getting really pumped to live there!
