You can always take a gap year, enjoy your academic-free life, and experience the thrill of awesome fulltime work

I don't want to apply when two types of mcat are being accepted, haha. It'll be messy.

Plus I am so antsy to just push through and start my career. I know this is what I want to do, so why wait?

I'm also definitely c/o 2020 (well more like 2024 since I'm doing MD/PhD). Gap years ftw. I need senior year to pull my GPA up, and I want to go abroad for most of the year.

Fine. I see how this is. Abandon all your friends and take the prize. How selfish. 🙁

Yay! Join the crew. Although I'm not going to post in the 2020 thread lol. :naughty::naughty::naughty:

Hi, I have been a member of Sdn For a year or so now, but never really posted. I plan 2 submit my application June 2015, I am in the correct thread right?

A little about myself, I worked in construction for a year after highschool, joined the navy as a FMF corpsman in 2008. 6 mos hospital corps school, 2 month field medical training. Got married and had 2 boys (1 yo and 4 yo) Station in CT I worked directly under physicians in family medicine, immunizations, pediatrics and internal medicine for one year ( they push us to be independent so it was a great learning experience). Deployed to AFG in June 2010 for I mos. Conducting various combat patrols, being the sole provider I treated various injuries from blast wounds/amputations to gun shot wounds. I also worked in the ER in AFG.in 2011 I was stationed in NC where I worked in physical therapy for 1 year. In 2012 I was medically retired and began my journey through school.
I'm just now beginning to volunteer at a local ER, and hopefully find a doc there to shadow.
My gpa after basics is a 3.9. Since I have all 6 precs to complete starting in spring, I plan to take the MCAT early 2015 after Chem1/2 and physics 1/2 is complete. Since I don't have enough time I plan to self learn OCHEM. And apply early June.

You're in the C/O 2020 thread, but thanks for your service.

Hey guys,

Going to be applying this upcoming year. Can't believe that after reading SDN for 4 years my "this is it, this is the year" moment is here. Feels (anxiously!) good to be here, class of 2019 🙂

Yes hey!!! I am the only one left on this thread!!! So now I'm not alone 🙂

I CAN'T WAIT EITHER!!!! Applying in what, 9 months? Oh my gosh.

:hardy: See you there!

Although be wary of sunflower18. She's a 2020er but claims to be a 2019er since she doesn't want to be alone. I'm still here though.

Ok sunflower18. You're definitely a 2019er... 🙄

And you forgot about me?! I'm a 2019er too, along with GTLO.

GTLO never posts here! He should 🙂 and ok, the four of us can have a 2019 party. Once you believe that i am a 2019er, that is. So exciiiiiited.

Glad to receive such a warm welcome from fellow 2019ers... so not in line with the typical SDN character.

Brace yourselves, you'll be my main support group considering that my friends are sick and tired of listening to my premed problems. 🙂

Happy to do so!! My boyfriend is probably tired of my premed problems as well, heh.

Have you started on your PS?

I need a hobby. I'm tired of obsessing about school and admissions and medicine all the time. It's time to become an interesting person instead of being boring and stressed! Now... Where should I start...? 😀

Actually I've been struggling to start. I am trying to gather all the tips/resources into one place. Organize my thoughts and start writing out a basic layout. I'm having an insane writers block though. I feel frustrated to the point where I want to just explode:boom::bang:

Any thoughts? tips? suggestions?

I'm also having anxiety attacks about my lack of extracurriculars. Commuter student problems...

Haha, that makes two of us. You should try bungee jumping, rock climbing, or swimming in a cage with sharks. Med school will become a secondary thought and your priorities will change - granted only for a little while 😉

You have a boyfriend right? Get him to show you some care and lovin' (can be romantic or raunchy depending on your POV :naughty:).

I'm in the same place as you. I feel like there are so many versions of my story I could tell, and so many ways to tell it... I'm not sure which would be the most effective. It's definitely tricky! I've read a lot of PS examples that basically just talk about how wonderful and noble the profession of medicine is, and praise the work of physicians. But I feel like that's not what the PS is for. The readers KNOW what the profession of medicine entail -- shouldn't you try to prove how you belong in it instead of just gushing about how great it is? I don't know. I just don't want to be a black sheep, or submit a boring PS.

I'm also having anxiety attacks about my lack of extracurriculars. Commuter student problems...

Ohhh that's tricky! But hey, having a car means that you can drive all over for your ECs, so that's actually an advantage!! What kinds of things are you involved in?

I'm hoping that my ECs are okay too. I do have some leadership, but it doesn't seem as strong as it could be. My research is also present, but feels a little weak because my lab is kind of unproductive due to it only containing undergrads, and most of whom aren't very motivated to work hard on research. And, due to the kind of research it is, it's virtually impossible to be done by just one student. Oh well. I have learned a lot. And I really do enjoy everything I'm doing! It's not just box-checking. But it's hard to avoid that mentality when writing everything out.

Haha, that makes two of us. You should try bungee jumping, rock climbing, or swimming in a cage with sharks. Med school will become a secondary thought and your priorities will change - granted only for a little while 😉

Wellllll. The first and last sound terrifying, but rock climbing sounds fun!! Haha. Really, though, I should try working out more often. I just hate it so much, and I'm always so tired as it is. People say that exercising gives you more energy, but that is so not the case for me. It just wipes me out. But I really want to get healthy and, in doing so, lose ~30 pounds or so in the next year so that I can look good and feel confident and such for interviews. I definitely want to be in great shape by the time med school starts so that I can begin a new chapter on the right foot.

Hahaha. I do have a boyfriend, and he's been great with dealing with my utter neuroticism. We've been dating for almost three years, so he's pretty used to my freakouts by now. Thank goodness, because I think they'd scare anyone else away!

As a man with experience of numerous fine ladies, I approve this advice. 👍👍👍

Hahaha okay good, as long as Agent B approves. I don't know what I would have done if he hadn't given it the okay.

We expect you to report back with details on dat lovin' :naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty: :naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty:

You sure? I'm usually a pro in this. Desperate guys rush to me, begging for tips to satisfy their ladies.

Same here. I am involved in an equally long-term relationship. Contrary to popular belief amongst couples, there actually are a whole host of ways to keep it from getting boring over the years
