Ahahaha...I think I might have been a bit tired/joking when I wrote that down! I completely rescind that statement with the latest influx of cold + my basement apartment apparently doesn't have heat... I do miss the warmth after all 🙂

And 49F? It was 17F on my one-mile morning commute (walking!). I would welcome some sunny weather right about now!
 
So I thought y'all would appreciate this. I was volunteering at a free clinic on Monday as an exit interviewer. I asked a patient if he had any suggestions for how we could improve his visit. He said, and I quote, "Well I suppose adding the ability to tase children isn't an option?" Needless to say he was seeing a psychiatrist...

Also how about that Buffalo weather? 72" of snow? More like 72 reasons to withdraw amirite?

During the lunch/research opportunity info session at Stanford, there was one PowerPoint slide titled as "Stanford, what set up apart". So of course, there was the beautiful campus, the stunning faculties, the unlimited amount of resources etc etc. the last thing on the list was "Northern California"

When I went it was slightly cloudy with a small chance of rain. Everyone was apologetic about the weather being "the worst".

Our tour guide's famous quote "snow doesn't come to me, I go to the snow"

They have a point.

@hellanutella, loving the pen swag! At the research conference I was recently at, they showered us with all kinds of free stuff, it was insane. I now have so many pen/highlighter combos, massive highlighters, tote bags, cell phone card holders, water bottles, portable chargers, and more! I was so excited, I forgot the main reason for my visit (you may be thinking, "research!" but the actual answer is food, of course).

Good luck with the top choice announcement @FriendlyFH! I hope that labyrinth helps out (looks beautiful btw!) 😉

I hope @sunflower18 and @hellanutella are having a good time together -- I'm super excited for you guys, and massively envious of the fun you'll undoubtedly have!

@researchismymiddlename, oooh psychic powers!! Well, let's see I can help you out... mine's gotta be desserts, Star Trek, HARRY POTTER (maybe a common one for all us -- no wonder we get along so well!), uhh what else... calligraphy, throwing raves in small rooms (very envious of the rave you attended @ridethecliche!) and techno dance parties in general, playing with fire (flaming tennis balls yeah!), dancing!!, climbing high things and generally adventuring.

Also @FriendlyFH I burst out laughing at the journal... can you guys imagine walking into an MMI and your interviewers all have those?! :laugh:

OK I should stop typing now probably... so much to catch up on and say!!

No way, we're loving it! We got a snow day today! Nothing wrong with hanging out in your pajamas and drinking hot chocolate all day. This year just keeps getting better it seems haha.

I'd love that, but I've only had one interview and will have my second on dec 5th. To hear back by xmas would be miraculous. Not sure hofstra would have such a short turn around and I doubt albany will give things in 3 weeks during the holiday season.

Still waiting for word from 30 schools....

Update: Did not get selected for chief scribe, but I can still become a trainer.

Winter came too early this year. Ugh lol

Sidenote: super pissed I got handed a crappy hand of genes, because I'm mildly allergic to dogs and severely allergic to cats. I'm okay with short-haired, low-shed dogs (I own 2 vizslas), but longhaired/wirehaired ones will cause me to break out in hives. Sadly, Goldens would likely set my allergies all haywire. 🙁

Still have yet to find out if I'm allergic to hairless cats. I kind of want to go find a sphynx breeder just to see if I react.

For me, the weather in Miami is a con for sure. Everybody loves the weather here until they experience 95 degree temp with 85% humidity. I'm so over it!! Especially when a lot of the time it's raining and we can't enjoy the good things everyone thinks we are doing everyday lol

So about me, I recently got accepted to UT Houston (yay!), but I also have an interview at my dream school, USC, in late January. At that time, I'll will have finished my last semester of school (fall 2014.)

I'm a mid-GPA, high Mcat applicant, but I have received 4.0's for the past 2 years straight. Anyways, since submitting amcas, I took a summer biology class and got an A, and this semester I took 5 classes, 4 of which I will get A's and one in which I will get a B/B+ (business class).

My question is, should I bother sending USC an update letter with my new grades? Even with the B it will raise my overall GPA, and I'm proud of the 5A's, but I know the B doesn't look great. I desperately want to get into this school, and I feel like a letter of update would help, but I don't want to send an update if it doesn't make me look good.

Do you think I should send a letter? I will also have a bunch of new activities to list as well.

First of all, welcome and congrats on your acceptance!!! Also congratulations on getting an II to a school you love so dearly! That's amazing and you should be so excited 🙂 Honestly, if you already have an interview invite, I don't think that an update letter is necessary at this point. Perhaps you could mention the update during your interview, or ask during the interview day when would be a good time to send updated grade reports. Good luck!! 🙂

USC and UCLA play eachother this week, maybe we'll see eachother at those games in the future 😉

And okay that's what I thought! I doubt they will ASK for my grades until I get accepted, but I'm just wondering because with an interview so late, I feel like I'll need every extra bump i can get to try an acceptance! Do you think sending an update with those grades would look bad/good/neutral? I have other activities I'm excited to tell them about, but I think it would be withholding info if I update them about other stuff, but not my grades.

I see your point. Grades aren't exactly things that come up in interviews. I'd say it would be at worst neutral assuming that it really impacts your GPA (i.e. an increase from 3.6 to 3.62 probably isn't worth mentioning)! You could also save that for after the interview! Then you definitely have something to discuss in a update letter/letter of interest. Best of luck 🙂 I'm sure you will rock it!

Thanks man, I sure hope so. Alma mater, girlfriend lives, works and needs to stay in LA long-term (film industry stuff), and I absolutely love my Trojan pride.

I will say I loved UColorado at my interview, and if I got in, it would be a hard choice. Congrats on your acceptance, what an amazing school!

CONGRATS ON HOUSTON! I'm wishing you all the best at 'SC. Unfortunately, they do not accept update letters and kept emphasizing this on my interview day. 🙁 They said "if we invited you to interview, we already like you enough."

Congrats on Houston! We had the chance to meet at Baylor and I believe you will end up at your top choice. My suggestion is to, if they are not open to update letters, use your interview as an opportunity to share your new activities and accomplishments. I am sure that if they are worthy of an update letter, your interviewers will appreciate the new info and can further help you when the committee meets to make decisions. GOOD LUCK!
 
@DirkN , I would talk about those things during the interview and send a post interview update with your grades and anything else notable. It will help you out as they decide post interview. Doing it now is weird since you're not waiting to hear anything back really.

Edit: Combo thank you letter plus post interview update.

Just some thoughts on the post holiday season interview stuffs:

I feel like a lot of people are in limbo from the bulk of their schools, no man/woman's land if you will. Once the schools stop accepting primaries and secondaries, they'll be able to review the few remaining apps pretty fast. As they'll then have a sense of their full pool at that point, I think that's when the real movement will start in dec/jan for everyone that's currently sitting on their hands.

Congratulations!!! I think you've heard a wealth of advice so I won't pipe in except to say everyone's opinion sounds correct. I say if anything send the letter after interview, but @hellanutella's hearsay might even kill that option. Good luck at your interview!!!
