Hey everyone, so I took gen chem 1 during my first year as an undergrad and received a D. I am going into my last year of undergrad and am wondering if I should take the course or just wait till I do my post bacc. Due to my major I had to do intro orgo and intro gen chem and received A's in those two classes so I feel like I will better understand the material as well as take the class more seriously. If I retake it, will it make my chances of getting into a post bacc program better or no? This is also important because if I receive a good grade in it, I could just go into gen chem 2 at the post bacc but I just want to know what post baccs think of it.

Taking it again will be helpful to you. Many medical schools don't accept less than a C. Furthermore, D.O schools will do a grade replacement for retaken classes which will help your GPA.

I know it will defiantly be a GPA booster if I do well and will move my grade up. But what will post baccs think of it?

Sorry, but another question popped up in my head but what about med schools. Would they prefer an high grade from my undergrad school or from the post bacc school?

If you are planning on doing a post-bacc that is a Masters program, medical school will look at your undergraduate GPA only. If you're doing a post-bacc that is the undergraduate prerequisite courses for medical school, medical schools will blend that post-bacc's GPA with your undergraduate GPA. Positive trend may also help.

Back to your previous question, as far as I know, I don't think that post-bacc program are that competitive to get into. I don't think that it is necessary for you to retake that gen chem class if they offer it in your post-bac program that you're planning to attend. The only up-side would be that you won't have to retake during the post-bacc year. In your case, I doubt that there is a significant difference if you retake gen chem, or not.
