Hi,

I graduated and submitted my primary and added Sinai to my list. I just saw that Sinai requires one semester of statistics, and I never took a stats course as I took AP Stats. I took Calc 3 and Differential Equations, which satisfies the math requirement for almost all the schools. Would not having this requirement bar me from getting any interviews? If I get into the school, I am willing to take Stats at my local university in the summer before matriculation.

Email admissions to explain the situation. Sometimes they will ask you to have your committee letter writers address it. Other times they will let you take it prior to matriculation. If you're lucky, they will send you an email saying something like, "Per the Dean of Admissions, you do NOT have to take Statistics. Please keep this email for your records." I was in a similar situation recently, for a different prerequisite. Of the 7 schools I emailed, 6 were awesome about it and responded within 24 hours. One of the schools acted like they didn't comprehend my question, and the quality of our interaction convinced me I would be better off not attending that particular school, let alone applying.

Would I only have to do this after receiving admission? Or should I contact them about it before? My school doesn't do committee letters.

I second Audrey's advice, but some schools will accept AP credits if you took a higher-level course in the same area. If this is the case with your schools, then you're in the clear. MSAR can give some guidance on this, but it's worth emailing Sinai to check too.

Thanks for bringing up this question. I didn't realize they had a stats requirement.

Sorry for hijacking - I took a stats course in college called stats for life sciences. It was listed under the molecular genetics department, not math. Would this be accepted at Sinai and other schools that require stats? And will schools look closely enough at our courses to find these requirements fulfilled or is it possible they'd overlook it for not being listed as math or stats?

Hey Moose, you can email them now. You don't have to wait until you've applied or been accepted.
