Hi guys. I'm currently in high school and aspire to be a dentist. I know I have awhile but I had one question...
I am in AP Chemistry. But my chem AP exam is clashing with another AP exam... I was wondering if I could give the CLEP for chem instead and get my credit via that. I know some dental schools don't accept AP but quite a few do. But does anyone know about CLEP credit acceptance for pre reqs?
Especially Texas schools since I'm a Texas resident? I know my best bet is to call the schools but just wanted to check here first.
Thank you

My personal opinion, take Chem in college regardless, unless you're trying to graduate early. For me, taking my prereqs in college did semi-help me with the DATs junior year. It may be really easy for you, which will act as a study supplement for DATs (sort of) plus a GPA booster 🙂.

Plus, depending on which undergrad you're going to, many actually don't give credits for those tests unless you score REALLY well. Actually, I don't know about AP, but when I was applying, a lot of schools didn't like to give credits for IB classes/tests.

Thanks for the reply. I actually do want to graduate in 3 years... My reasons are a bit complicated but yah. The college I want to go to needs a 56 to get credit. I understand the DAT concern but I'm hoping books and other study tools can help me for that.

Yeah, it only helped me in terms of familiarity. Chem section is mostly equations IMO which I had to relearn everything - so I guess books can do their jobs too.

I've never heard of CLEP for various subjects! My only experience with CLEP was receiving foreign language credits by taking the Vietnamese CLEP.

UT Dallas offers it for quite a few classes including languages, chem, bio, college algebra, pshchology, and a few others. Thanks for the info!

Not much to gain from bypassing college level general chemistry and much to loose, since it will likely leave you ill prepared for other science courses.
