I've heard it both ways... Some are adamantly against CLEPing, saying the medical schools won't accept the credits. Others say they didn't have any difficulty with their CLEP credits.

The CC where I am at now requires me to take a Chem 101 course before I can take the Anatomy and Physiology courses. I was hoping to get into my first A&P course next semester, but that would require me to somehow get that Chem 101 credit this semster.

So if I CLEP those three credits, are medical schools going to dock me for it? How much do they care about introductory Chemistry?

Along this same line, will it matter if I CLEP out of the humanities or social science courses?

Don't clep chem 101. If you want to clep a few humanities courses that's ok. Chem 101 is more important than A&P anyways. With a lot of your credits coming from a CC, you can't afford to raise any question marks in your app by clepping any core science classes.

Note that the same doesn't apply to AP credits because AP'ing out of chem 101 involves totally different standards. And even when students AP out of inorganic chem, sometimes they still need two years of chem courses so they must pick up classes like Analytical chem or physical chem. Clepping out of inorganic chemistry makes little sense imo.

Pardon my ignorance, what the F%$K is CLEPing?

it is more like credit-by-exam than it is like AP -

but it is a standardized exam written and administered by a 3rd-party organization - unlike when you take an exam at the university to get credit for a class instead of taking it.

Adcadet, No not really like AP. An AP course has certain lab requirements to be met. Also a certain # of classroom hours to be met. You can't just show up for the AP chem exam and pass it(Well maybe you could but the admins wouldn't let you show up and pass it).

Anyone who studies independently a little with a chem text can CLEP out. no classes and no lab. It would be a very bad idea to do that if you're premed.
