cliffs taxonomy

bump, wondering the same thing...
But those phylums of Monera, Protista, Fungi, and Plants seems useless.
I don't think anyone has ever said they got a non-animal taxonomy question that was specific (like about phylums instead of the overall kingdom).

Can anyone please help me and the doc on this one

I haven't taken the DAT yet, so I don't know. but i made sure I knew basic characteristics of each that seemed like they may be tested on.and the major differences. at least that way i could eliminate answers if i came across somethign complex, like the spenophyta (the phytas are all in plantae) i dunno. I just memorized the important differences bet them and scanned the really complex stuff. Maybe someone who took the test would know better if its realy necessary to go any further than that. 😕

Agreed with Doctor PJ.... Cliffs is way more detailed than you need, I dont think I had any questions on my dat...

I've definitely been wondering the same thing. I've used cliffs and Kaplan's class and I could swear somewhere in Kaplan they've said to really focus on the big ideas and not to get overwhelmed in memorizing every little detail.

Suggestions from those who've taken the test?

i'm doing this now and I'm wondering the same thing. I've never even heard of half this stuff before

A friend of mine told me to know basics... her idea of what hte scope of DAT was after taking it...

Monera - prok, no nuclei, plasmids, peptidoglycan, modes of nutrition, (theres not really that much info if you read through it... its all stuff you probably ahve seen before)

Protist- said the diff names are not important
but know isogamy, anisagamy (ask me if you dont get it, this is also part of animal behavior part of the test), PROTAZOA = protist, hyphae

Fungi- grow hyphae, mycellium, chitin, lichen, mycorrhizae (she didnt say anything about the other ones just said she didnt' review it)
mode of reprodution

Plantae- what is diff about bryophytes? what is diff about angio and gymno?
xylem/phloem, antheridium (male part), archegonium (female part),
alternation of generation generalities, female and male parts of flowering plants,

Animals, i went through it all because ive noticed a large number of questions refering ot the different phylums by their common names in prac tests--- dont take my word on taht

chordata and that they are invertebrates and vertebrates

Sweet, thanks for that. So you have to know detail but not really weird random crap, that makes me happy.
