Hey yall-

I was wondering if it is acceptable/favorable if my only clinical experience is through volunteering at the student clinic? Benefits of volunteering at my school is that I don't have to "pay my dues" aka work a desk job for the first while like most of the positions I've found at local hospitals. You get a lot of patient contact, take vital signs, and eventually can work up to doing EKGs and blood drawings. However it is a different environment than at the big hospitals around campus and I'm not sure if adcomms would frown upon this.
I would still have shadowing under doctors not at the university, in clinic and in hospitals.

Thanks!

As long as you can smell the patient, it's clinical experience! This sounds great. Do what benefits you the most. Clinical volunteering will look like clinical volunteering to ADCOMs regardless of what it is. Plus the patient contact stuff sounds better than what you'd likely do at a typical hospital ED. If you can score this position, by all means do it.
