So I'm looking into getting some loupes now before summer session with operative starts (although it would be nice to already have them for crown preps). I wear prescription glasses and can't wear contacts, so I know one option is to put my Rx in the loupes. However, I was thinking about just getting clip-on loupes for my current glasses...I get the all the comfort of my normal glasses with the magnification too! Plus, just looking at a few sites, it would be more like $300-$400 v. $1000+. Any one have any advice on this situation? It would be greatly appreciated!

most clip on/flip down loupes require you to use the frame specified by the manufacturer. Some are available on d-bay from hong kong for as little as $150 new with the frame.

If you have corrected vision, you can wear contacts or have corrected lenses placed into the frame supplied. The other cosideration about clip ons/flip downs is the weight (usually 2-3 oz) hanging 1 - 2 inches in front of your face with most of the force born on your nose. If this would be a problem for you then you might consider through the lens varieties which place the optic closer to your face and do not have the extra weight associated with the mounting hardware attaching the lenses to a frame. Plus, the through the lens frames usually are pretty stylish.

Many people survive dental school without loupes. This is also an option.

Thanks, what I was thinking are just the really cheap ones you clip on to regular glasses. But I was told not to so I ended up just biting the bullet and getting Surgitel flip-ups with my prescription in the lens. If you get there new micro 250 flip-ups, I swear you cannot tell there is any weight out on the frames at all...
