Close old threads?

Can we close all threads to posting after 1 year? these old threads from 2004 and 2008 that keep popping up are distracting to actual conversations that are relevant to things happening now.

We can keep them open to read--but wouldn't it be nice if "Best top 5 residencies" stopped coming up every few weeks, or you read a thread thinking its new just to find out someone replied to one from 2003?

Just my 2 cents...an idea.
