Hello. I’m currently a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and am wondering what impact this would have on an MD/PHD application. I work in infectious disease doing mostly viral testing on patient specimens, but do not interact with patients or do research. It is primarily a PCR lab.
I’m mostly wondering whether this lab experience will help me in the “research/clinical experience” department since all I have is one year of research in a yeast lab, and no publications or patient interaction. I am probably a couple years off from applying and looking into how I can get more experience that would help my application.
I have a B.S. in biological sciences with a 3.77 GPA and an M.S. in molecular biology (non-thesis) with a 3.71 GPA. Also would love suggestions about where to begin finding opportunities since I’m no longer a student. Thank you!!
