Usually used in reference to rank lists. Programs place applicants they think are more likely to go to their program at the top of the list over applicants they actually liked more or were more qualified so that they don't look bad or something by going too far down their rank list. This year it seems like the interview invites are getting some of this treatment as well. What exactly does this term "yeild protection" mean? If you don't mind me asking. Is it just programs targeting applicants who they think are safety applicants for their program?

Going forward can we please stop with the "GUYS, chill out, it's only been ____ days, they have to read your app still" comments? In the condensed season no one knows anything and it's entirely possible that some programs have assigned all their interviews at this point. Let us vent in peace.
Yeah but its a problem when people are like "SHOULD I SEND A THANK YOU EMAIL FOR A WEBINAR INVITE??!?!"
Im glad venting is fine but some of these posts are neurotic for sure.

I see, so programs are more likely sending out invites to applicants they believe will be more likely to rank their program higher off the bat. This seems to be mostly regarding regionality, I'd assume
Mostly, yes. From my short experience so far even programs within the region are reluctant to extend invites to people they assume are looking at higher ranked programs. Probably smart on their end tbh but still annoying.I see, so programs are more likely sending out invites to applicants they believe will be more likely to rank their program higher off the bat. This morning was the first that I got invites from programs I have no direct connection/away rotation relationship to. yeah, literally just a half hour ago I got an invite for a program out of state that I haven't rotated at. So crossing my fingers this week brings us all plenty of invites
So I still have 0 interview invites. All my friends have 1. I am applying primary care. I took another look at my application and it seems fine, especially for what I am applying for. Some of my friends with much lower board scores are doing fine so I don't think that's it. Is there any way I can check to make sure my LOR are good? Should I be worried.

Sure, but who cares?
The point of this thread is to let out all the neuroticism here, instead of actually doing something stupid lol
The scary part is weve all heard stories of people ACTUALLY doing the stupid stuff after seeing it brought up a bunch of times on here...med students are literally insane haha what do we do to ourselvesSure, but who cares?

Got my first ERAS message so I at least know the damn thing works.
Ironically, it's an invitation to send them a statement on reasons I'm interested specifically in their program.
Here we are laughing at the idea of early LOI, and this program is soliciting an early LOI!

I kept trying to hype myself saying “I’ll start getting interviews Monday”.... but still at zero. I don’t know how much longer I can deal with this.
They're clearly selecting for those hypomanic students who don't sleep.Got an interview while I was sleeping and by the time I woke up and made a thalamus account all the dates were full...feels bad
Seriously...I got woken up by one at like 730AM so now I'm all keyed up and probably won't hear a thing the rest of the day. Do they not know I'm on vacation and trying to not wake up at normal hours?!

Honestly though. I’m on an online rotation that started today and don’t have any responsibilities yet so of course I slept in! Looks like I’ll have to change my email notification sound to something more obnoxious.
What a terrible systemGot an interview while I was sleeping and by the time I woke up and made a thalamus account all the dates were full...feels bad
You weren’t trained on email response times ?Glad to know 3.5 years of hard work essentially boil down to how fast you can respond to an email.

First rads interview! Finally know my apps not complete trash
Congrats!!
First TY interview. Midwest. 5/7 interview dates already booked up. Some PDs really aren't messing around
I hope your ERAS photo had a cowboy hat in itSo many interviews to UT San Antonio according to the spreadsheet, how do I show them I want TX without emailing them and getting on a DNR list damnnit

It is VERY quiet today......
My first interview date is for my top program. Should I postpone that date so I can get some 'practice' interviews at programs I will likely rank lower? Would postponing a date by 2 weeks affect the rank list significantly?
I just don't want to walk into the biggest interview of the cycle without enough practice.

Allocating my fourth-year “free” time over the next few weeks was NOT the move

I got asked about that this AM for an interview.Has anyone thought about what to say / if to bring up the PE situation for us DO's? As in, during the "what questions do you have?" stage, would it be a good idea to mention that although I won't have a PE by rank list, neither will most DO's and to reassure them that I will pass first try? Or better to not bring it up and hope for the best?
Said I was scheduled for November 8th, suspended til April 2021.
Honestly I said i'm gonna do my best to take it before July 2021.
Its not much better being on a rotation, I keep checking my phone to make sure I dont miss any interviews. It doesnt help that I absolutely dislike this place that I am auditioning for.Allocating my fourth-year “free” time over the next few weeks was NOT the move

Yeah i don't know why interns (who've been in the similar stressful position last year) or anyone else say that. Its a stressful time and def ok to vent here.
Literally have no clinical duties until mid January because I planned on doing a lot of traveling. Really regretting that now.Allocating my fourth-year “free” time over the next few weeks was NOT the move

Second this. I got an interview at one of my top programs, but every date was filled up until late January. It's the only interview I've gotten so far, and it's not like it's a renowned program either. Maybe it's just a Texas thing, but I've heard similar stories about other programs.
I, for one, was told to send a LOI to your top programs early on since this year is very different. Take that with a grain of salt, ofc. Decided against it because I really just wasn't sure.
It’s absolutely obnoxious. Then the best they can do for you is a crowded waitlist.Got an interview while I was sleeping and by the time I woke up and made a thalamus account all the dates were full...feels bad

Absolutely the right move. I saw dates become unavailable despite getting to the screen within 1-2 minutes. You want to have your email and myeras tab up for sure during these earlier times.

The TY interview I got this morning is now fully booked all 7/7 days. It's not even a week into the cycle! Really hoping this program is an early outlier
Also still 0/50 on rads programs
Also still 0/50 on rads programs
Just got an II at a place I did a virtual rotation at! Now I feel less stupid for crawling back to VSAS after it opened again.
This is going to be our week, y'all. Let's stay strong and keep the memes flowing.

Seriously miffed that one of my top choices that is regional and I’m way too competitive for sent out invites and I didn’t get one.
Same bro. Hits right in the feels....

Worst part seems to be that the only way to express interest in that program would be to send a LOI that is looked down upon right now. So annoying.
