Usually used in reference to rank lists. Programs place applicants they think are more likely to go to their program at the top of the list over applicants they actually liked more or were more qualified so that they don't look bad or something by going too far down their rank list. This year it seems like the interview invites are getting some of this treatment as well. What exactly does this term "yeild protection" mean? If you don't mind me asking. Is it just programs targeting applicants who they think are safety applicants for their program?
