Hi I know the proper answer to this question is to hire a consultant to visit your department and do a formal analysis - however, does anyone know how to do a cursory review (i.e. one man band style) of your department's coding and billing practices from a doctor's standpoint, to see how you can code and document to create less denied claims and more reimbursements?

Thanks lads and lassies.

The reason I'm asking is our department is little (comparatively speaking), and doesn't have a formal billing consultant service - we use coding and billing from an outside company whose business interests don't lie with helping us code and bill better. Our department CEO has denied us the opportunity to formally hire a coding/ billing consultant and I wanted to see if I can poke around from the trainee's perspective to see what can be done (I'm a cardiology fellow).
