College Classes in High School?

Hihi guys!

I was wondering... how does AMCAS view classes taken at a college during your high school years? I ended up taking some classes at a 4 year institution (not junior college) between my 9th and 11th grade years. Sadly, I got a fair number of B+s, which hurts my GPA. Will they count this towards my cumulative GPA, or will this go towards something else (like AP credit, but with a different category)? Some help please? Thanks.

Yeah, you're screwed, so was I.

I have a 4.0 at my main undergrad institution, but 10 years ago my damn high school pre-calculus teacher gave me a B.

I had to report it to AMCAS, and if you don't and they find out, it's bad news for you. It does figure into your GPA, but you lump it under "high school."

Good news is, most adcoms look past those grades. My interviewers just talked about my 4.0.

It does count toward your overall GPA, and the courses you took in the sciences count toward your science GPA. I did the same thing as you and took a lot of classes in high school at a community college which REALLY lowered my GPA. But with that said, most schools look at trends and therefore your most recent coursework carriers the most weight.

But, if you are looking at the TOP schools, and I hope this doesn?t open an ethical can of worms, there is always the option of not using those credits toward your degree and never reporting to your graduating institution that you took those classes. Then AMCAS (and ultimately the schools you are applying to) will never know.

A friend of mine went to a really prestigious school and messed up pretty bad his first year. He applied to another school which is also quite prestigious without telling them about his previous coursework. It took him an extra year to graduate but he's at UCSF which might not have happened with the first year blemish.

Although I wouldn't worry if I were you. B+ is not a poor grade. No one will ask you in an interview "what were you doing back then, messing around in college when you were 15, getting B+'s in your classes?"

I had a NP on one of my courses from a similar experience due to a registration screwup. It was never brought up in any of my interviews and probably had no effect on my eventual admission.

I didn't realize you are only talking about B+ grades.. I wouldn't worry about it at all.. just do better in your future coursework in those disciplines.
