cologne/perfume at interview?

I was thinking that obviously a lot of either cologne or perfume would be obnoxious, but I am unsure if even a little would be good. It seems that smelling good would be a positive, but there are the risks of them not liking the smell or it could even irritate your interviewers. I thought this might be one of the subtle things that could be overlooked by many, so what are your opinions on the subject?
 
Skipt it....in addition to the fact that they may not like it, they'll prob be smelling a lot of ppl that day. It could get old.

just shower in the morning...nothing beats a fresh, clean just-out-of-the shower smell =)

that **** is repulsive to many ppl i know actually

just DO would do
they are not gonna hug u or anything so you dont need any perfume/colonge
 
save up your crotch sweat in a flask for a few months and then use that
 
UGH, I wish everyone would stop wearing perfume and cologne. Certain scents (which includes most perfumes and colognes) give me an instant horrible headache.

So just in case your interviewer is like me - skip it. 😉 It would definitely leave a bad impression if they have a headache after spending an hour with you.

Just shower with good 'ole Ivory (or some other boring soap) in the morning. 😀

uh i hate to tell you buddy, axe is SO strong. it doesn't even smell that good. it also leaves a distinct lingering scent.

remember just because you can't smell it anymore doesn't mean the world cant.

i vote for soap

Most clinicians are used to smelling patients with odors far worse than most applicants, so I wouldn't try to clean up your scent too much. And after working in a hospital everything is just competing with the strong smell of latex gloves and antiseptics on their hands anyhow. So if you are not offensive smelling, use a very minimal amount of cologne/perfume.

You can smell good by bathing.

You should never well cologne or perfume in a medical setting because some patients cannot tolerate the smells.

Cologne is for dates--not interviews.

Anyway, not much I can add...uh, my soap of choice is Irish Spring (the blue kind). 😀

I would suggest bathing the day of the interview, of course, and would also suggest powder for the ladies after showering. As far as powdering goes, I wouldn't powder on anything on the Axe level, but rather something subtle smelling: just to make sure use a small amount. As another poster said, nothing beats the "fresh shower scent". I fancy the scent of Old Spice soap, if you're a guy 😉.

You people are disgusting.

As a future medical professional, you need to be conservative, and wearing scents in hospitals may irritate the patients. Seriously, it is a big concern, and also, no one wants to smell you. Skip the scents. Go for scentless deorderant after showering. That's it.

Yeah, I agree. Some strong perfumes and colognes have the same effect with me. So people should skip the perfume/colonge scented stuff for interviews (and when interacting with patients in school and as a doctor). Like you said it won't make a good impression if the interviewer is like you and ends up with a headache or is like me and ends up with a migraine or screwed up allergies from perfume! And I am sure sick patients with the same problems (allergies/headaches to perfumes) will be happy if their doctor isn't wearing anything scented that might make them feel sicker.
 
as a cologne connoisseur, i suggest something very light (summer colognes would be best). i think one small spary would be okay, or one spray on your clothes the night before...

best cologne = Victoria Secret's "Very Sexy" for men :meanie: don't use this for your interview because it's a little too strong lol

That's a sound plan. In addition to getting in everywhere you interview, all the ladies will fall for you instantly. 60% of the time, it works all the time!

it's what i use, and i've found that if you do a single spray on your bare chest before putting all your clothes on hides the smell and keeps it nice and subtle. that way you can still smell good for the fellow interviewees, and not overpower the interviewer.

I wish people would say things like this to a person face to face more often lol. I swear sometimes perfume/colognes are so strong I keep my mask on after I leave the OR lol.

I think if you take a good shower and use some shampoo that smells good, that would be enough.
