Hi everyone!
I haven't been able to find a forum for Colorado DPT programs for the 2020-2021 application cycle, so I thought I would create one!
I applied to the DPT programs at University of Colorado and Regis University. Let me/us know if anyone has been accepted/denied, interviewed/interview scheduled, etc.!

1st year Regis DPT student here. It sounds Regis' interviews will be virtual and held mid-December around the 14th/15th. You may see me virtually! Don't hesitate to comment if anyone has any questions related to Regis, Colorado, or DPT school in general!

When do you think interview invitations will be going out, then? Thanks for offering us answers to our questions! 🙂

Our school actually has a -> great website <- that the students update with interview tips and information about our program. For Regis, my greatest advice would be to look over the key Jesuit values, reflect, and be prepared to talk about them (have applicable personal stories ready). Be well versed in the APTA core values and their vision statement--in addition to Regis'. It is worth mentioning that the Regis program has a heavy emphasis on service-learning, social-justice/equity, and leadership in the field of physical therapy. I would address those and how you align with them. (*Please note that while Regis is a Jesuit University and they model that philosophy, there is no pressure or religious aspect to any part of the program)

For all colleges, my advice would be to find three things that make you unique from others and try to get those points across during your interview. Also, have a personal story to back up every statement about yourself; there is nothing worse than unsupported claims. Note that everyone is going to say they chose physical therapy because they either a) want to help others or b) got a sports injury and had a positive physical therapy experience. Stand out, be unique, and most importantly--be yourself. The interview process is to see if you are the right fit for the program. But, it is as much you interviewing the program as they are interviewing you. Find out if the school's location, academic curriculum, program values, and financial-cost would make you the most successful physical therapist you can be. Have questions ready to ask the interviewers and do your best to stand out and make a lasting impression.
 
Got rejected from the University of Colorado, and got an invitation to interview for Regis on the same day haha

Invited to interview from CU and Regis yesterday, both scheduled around the week of 12/13

I feel like this puts us at an advantage. We all spent a lot of time on our apps so we're already familiar with our stories/experiences and how to share that with admissions! Good luck everyone!

Hi @dvanbeur ! I see that Regis is hosting group interviews. Do you have any insight into how many applicants participate in the groups? Any advice on what kind of questions to expect or the format on questioning? TIA!
 
I got off of the interview waitlist for Regis; however, I declined the offer!

Of course! When I interviewed, each group had three interviewees and two faculty members facilitating the discussion. (I'm assuming it will be the same format with breakout rooms in Zoom) The faculty will typically ask an open-ended question and have the group discuss it. Some examples were: "How do you see the profession of physical therapy as being different than other health care professions?", "The APTA vision statement is: Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience. Discuss the meaning of this vision and what it means to you", "The philosophy of our program is rooted in the six core Jesuit values, discuss the value that you align with the most", and the classic "Why did you choose physical therapy" and "Why Regis University?". The key with group interviews is to 1) Be a good active listener 2) Know how to respectfully respond and build on others' statements, 3) Don't control the conversation, and 3) Have multiple stories ready for every question because someone might say your planned answer. I'd practice with others if possible.

Aw sorry to hear that. What was hard or unexpected about it for you? I felt pretty good about mine with the two other candidates. We shared thoughts and engaged with each other... Actually ran out of time because we were talking too much, so didn't get to ask questions.
 
I have my interviews with University of Colorado tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday. These are my first interviews and I'm suuuuper nervous; does anyone have any advice? What kinds of questions should I prepare for?

Are you going to be attending the welcome session at 12:30MST today? Want to do a zoom session after and review some basic warmup questions?

That’s great! The chemistry with the other candidates was off. I felt like it was really really short. eh we’ll see

Right? I felt like there wasn't quite enough time to really support yourself or "shine through" but hopefully as long as you spoke your piece when you could they're willing to offer a seat

I'm definitely nervous!! But I am looking forward to spending time with some faculty members and picking their brains a bit. Did you figure out who your interviewers are? 🤓
