Columbia interview invite up to 5th batch =/

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Gracious. This thread is ridiculous. Please relax; Columbia interviews people until the beginning of APRIL. It's not even September yet...It's this sort of SDN drama that raises everyone's blood pressure.

When I interviewed at Columbia last year, the Dean said that Columbia isn't a first choice for most applicants. It makes sense; why would you want to pay 400k, when you could get the same degree for several 100k less?

Even so, I suggest patience. Despite submitting early, all of my interviews last year were post-December, and it turned out fine.

Thank you Penny... we all just need to CHILLAX and be patient. If we get all worked up like this so early in the process we'll lose steam when the interviews come rolling in... speaking of which, I gotta stop lurking in SDN and get to bed. Long work week ahead...

Negative I'm a dude😀

Do you have some sort of awesome EC or other element of your application? I'm trying to figure out how you got an early invite alongside all the 24AA+ people.

The reasons for invites are not always simple and clear. I have received invites from a couple schools that I would consider more competitive than other schools that have deferred me or rejected me. Example, got an interview to Columbia, deferred by Creighton while people are getting interviews there with 17AA's and lower GPAs. It is not a simple process.

I agree...I have no idea why I have an interview from Columbia and not my own state school? Measuring up against others stats accomplishes nothing in my opinion because it doesn't seem like schools are sending out invites based on an individual criterion.

To answer the other question, nothing special about my ECs other than a 100 hours or so for shadowing and volunteering.

how do you know that you got deferred from Creighton?

there have been what, 10 people post here on sdn with interview invites from Columbia. They did not sent out 10 invites people. There are definitely those with 22 aa's that got invites and 23's too, they just aren't on sdn!! Relax guys, its august.

Same here. got 25AA 24TS 23PA and didnt hear back, but then again, my gpa was pretty low..

If a poster from last cycle was accurate that interviews are roughly 20 person groups, at least 60-80 invites have been given out. I wasn't able to schedule until a few Friday's in.

They interviewed ~300 people last year. I heard they keep seats free for stellar applicants who apply later.

This means they still have 2/3rds of their interview invites left. Based on last year's interview/acceptances thread, they sent out 1 round of invites in August, 2 more in September, and 1 in October. I only hope that for those of us in an early batch (1st fifth), being passed up for the first interview invite batch isn't a silent rejection.
