Hey everyone,
I'm a nontraditional applicant looking to make a switch to medicine.

Here are my stats:

  • Undergrad: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)
  • Major: Computer Science + Philosophy
  • GPA: 3.86
  • Clinical/Research Experience:
    • 100 hours shadowing across multiple specialties
    • Recently started scribing and working in a wet lab
    • Completed a research internship in medical AI during my final semester at UIUC
I applied to Scripps, Goucher, JHU, UVA, Columbia, and University of Louisville.

  • Waitlisted and then rejected at UVA
  • Accepted into Columbia
  • Rejected from the rest
I think I was rejected largely due to applying late in the cycle (I needed time to complete shadowing hours) and limited clinical exposure at the time of application.

I'm currently deciding between attending Columbia’s post-bacc program or doing a DIY post-bacc at the University of Louisville.

To clarify: money is not an issue for me.

Would love to hear thoughts from anyone who formal post-bacc or a DIY track. Thanks!

Do ALOT of research before attending Columbia. You’ll find many reviews that say the post bac is rough, many drop out and getting good grades is extremely difficult. Columbia post bac takes pretty much everyone so don’t get caught up in the name.
