Yes, indeed. Geniuses too need their entertainment. Today was a relatively easy day. My fellow classmates and I are nearing the end of pharmacology and pathology. Moreover, I shadowed a world renowned cardiothoracic surgeon at Mass General. After a PA successfully extracted the saphenous vein, I was allowed to suture small regions of the upper thigh. The PA was $%#king slow. He must have graduated from an inferior school. I could have extracted that vein with my eyes closed.

Sorry, I migrated on over here from the Lounge, and I usually lurk and dont post, but I had to comment on this:

get off your pedestal. school is what you make of it. youre not the only smart, successful one around.

😡

Harvard is the intellectual mecca of the world. Every student at Harvard is a genuis. Any student will kill their fathers and mothers for a taste of Harvard's table scraps. I am a second year at Harvard MEDICAL school. That makes me a genius my default. Dental students are inferior to medical students. Let's make that clear. However, if one attends dental school at Harvard, he or she is my equal. Dr. BadVibes, you are a *****. Delicious, stop masturbating. Mr. Benny, while Columbia is still an inferior school, it is nonetheless an Ivy League school. Hence, you have earned my respect, albeit a small amount.

Kind of strange...I was under the impression from the curriculum map that I received while on my interview at Harvard that pharmacology is taken in year 1 and pathology is taken in year 2. I don't really think this would have changed since October.

i can't believe ppl are taking offense to harvardmed, thinking he's for real. sarcasm, people, and he's a definite troll to boot

How was I being racial?

You explicitly used the word CHINESE-- and not within a positive context, either. Maybe it was not your intention to be "racial" but I don't think it was necessary to point out the dude's ethnicity-- his ethnicity had little to do with the rest of your statement. From where I'm from, at least, an individual can get into trouble for saying something like that, no matter the intention-- racial or not. It's like saying "you must be that Mexican guy," or "you must be that Black guy," "you must be that Jewish guy," "you must be that Arab guy," etc. A statement like yours, especially in the context of retaliating to what another individual said, can be misunderstood. Just gotta watch what we say and how we say it. 🙂

Oh yeah, see ya next year at Temple Dr. BadVibes. 👍

I saw absolutely nothing wrong with Dr. BadVibes' post. And I don't see how the context was negative. You are in fact chinese, aren't you? Are you insecure about being asian or what?!

No, I am not Chinese but I am Asian. Am I insecure about being Asian? Watch your mouth. And what are you, Dr.BadVibes minion? And, are you a minority?

Yes, I am a minority. I just couldn't understand why you took such offense to his comments. I fully would not care. Sorry, I take back what I said about insecurity.

Can we PLEASE get back to comparing Penn and Columbia!

Columbia is top-notch. We get some of the best professors in the country. Not only are they experts, they really care about us and are always there to answer our questions and concerns. It's tough in that you have to keep up with the load but that's for any dental school you go to. My classmates share ALL review notes and old tests! I am really surprised sometimes with the camaraderie. People are always up for studying together and forming random study groups. And weekends are great for exploring the city! Wouldn't go anywhere else. But you have to decide for yourself.

Wow truly wise words.

Just to clarify, in case some people weren't sure: this guy does not go to harvard. I'm first year dental at harvard, and I just asked my next door neighbour. Second years had a psychology final yesterday, they took pharmacology at the end of last year, and right now they are studying pathophysiology.

Honestly, nobody is like this at Harvard. Don't get me wrong, I found those posts pretty funny. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew so that you wouldn't get the wrong impression. Peace out!!

I don't know about Penn but Columbia sure has lots of pretty girls. And I still can't figure out why since dental school is not really known for having pretty girls. Maybe the admission committee likes pretty girls and I don't blame them. HAHA!

Dr.BadVibes does have reasonable arguement except the part when he said iti would be easier to specialize at temple due to the class ranking. I am pretty sure the specialy programs would know the difference btw an academic based program like Columbia as oppose to Temple. You have many more research opportunity at columbia which also help u specialize.

Fred, or any other guy currently at columbia now, is it true? Are the women at SDOS that much more attractive than your avg female dental student?

Can someone explain to me what a troll is? Sorry to get off the thread topic.

I can't contribute much to the UPenn vs. Columbia debate since I didn't interview at UPenn. But a lot of 2nd years here have told me that their final decisions came down to harvard and upenn. I don't know if that means anything though. Columbia seemed like a really sweet school though; but I wish I had seen the residences. Can anyone comment on what they're like?!

my vote: columbia

Reading through this thread from beginning to end is laborious, humorous, and sometimes useful. It's amazing how much of it is spend how frivolous competition between which school is better, or what.

However, my summary is this...
* Columbia is research oriented.
* Columbia may be a bit clinically weak
* There is much said about matching rate for specialty, but then the success rate seems to be all speculative to some extent.
* Price was never mentioned, so it is cheaper than NYU
* There is a certain "energy" (in all the vagueness of this term) with Columbia due to its Ivy League status.
