Columbia Wait List

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I need to get off Columbia's wait list, so I can establish some sort of plan for the rest of my summer! Anyone hear anything from Dean Frantz recently? I am getting mixed feelings about whether or not I should call him. Do you think he will let me know where I stand on Columbia's waiting list? Here's to jack and coke...

I called last monday. The guy was really nice this time (my second call). The first time, which was sometime in May, he was kind of short with me on the phone. This time, though, he was really nice and told me just to sit tight and wait. He didnt tell me that I didn't have a chance, but he also didn't say I was getting in. He was rather positive with me, so I take it as a somewhat good sign. Only time will tell.

I just really, really, really, want to go to Columbia. More, however, I just really really really want this whole process to be over.

i say you call and flat out ask for your chances
he will tell you
he told me

hmm, i don't know... i asked him, and he didn't give me a straight forward answer.

i had the same experience as jmwalker.
i asked him straight up and he told me. you can specifically ask him where you are on the waitlist (ie which third you are on).
it seems that first third is most hopeful.

Hey Guys!!!! Just stopping by to say hello and bump this page up to the top... You all sound so discouraged! Cheer up, this isn't over yet! You guys are all in other amazing schools, don't let Dr. Frantz bring you down! I don't know who is still on this boat since I haven't been around for a while, but my one and only advice is if you have nothing to lose, go for it, write that extra letter, make that call and come what may be happy with what you have right now. Med school is what you make of it and I know you will all do extremely well if you really want to, it doesn't matter where you go. Friday is coming up again, good luck to all!!

thanks for the encouragement intl!

CKATTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations on Stony Brook, I am sooooooo happy for you!!

thanks intl! it's been a real rollercoaster year, but i think things are starting to settle down a bit.

i'm not giving up on columbia yet. now that i have stony brook, i have until august 18th to wait for columbia. =D it'll be much much easier for me to turn on the dime if i ever am lucky enough to get the call from dr. frantz.

Congrats on Stony Brook. Hope you get to celebrate a Columbia accept too. 😀

thanks jm. =D

i finally feel like i can relax a little bit. any news on nyu for you? hope things work out for nyc!

just wanted to give everyone following this thread the 411. i recently talked to dean frantz, and he told me that there have been fewer withdrawals than are usual at this time of the year, but hopefully there will be more changes during the summer than in other years. have faith and get jiggy!

no nyc news - but Temple called. SO I was trying to decide between there and Drexel.

Hello everyone! I realize 395 posts into this thread that i'm a little late to be joining, but figured better late than never! I have yet to learn everyone's names and their situation, but i'd like to start by saying that i talked to Dr. Frantz the other day and he told me that the waitlist process was slow this year due to an unusually small number of withdrawals (i think someone else also said he told them the same). i flat out asked him what my chances were and he said that at this point, they weren't looking great, but that i shouldn't lose all hope as you never know when they might get 4 or 5 withdrawals in one week. i'm currently out of the country so when i return i plan on calling once more to see what has happened and then if nothing has changed, it's off to georgetown for me! i loved georgetown and am totally excited about that prospect. anyway, Dr. Frantz told me not to feel like a pest and to call or write whenever i want so i think that we should all take that advice (while being judicial in the frequency of our calls, of course). also, i was wondering if anyone had any idea how many people have been accepted off the wait list? good luck to EVERYONE. I have faith that we will all end up where we are supposed to be.

welcome pudge!

glad that you're here now .

in the past somewhere between 20-30 people have been taken off of the waitlist.

so far this year, sdn reports 4. i'm figuring around 10 people have gotten in off the waitlist so far, so there's still plenty of spots up for grabs.

thanks for posting! good luck to you and everyone else! have fun on your vacation!

ahh but the real question is how many people are in the list to begin with... or remain on the list currently.

No - the true question is if there is a list at all, or if it is all an illusion!

maybe the perception of the list is all there is, in which case we might wonder by what right we call such things illusions in the first place.

neo would say:

there is no list. there is no list.

man - makes me wanna go play my enter the matrix game

i love that game! tho, i'm a little stuck at the part where i need to blow up the three anchors while ice and some other dude need to stay alive. any hints?

lemme go check the manual

i like dinosaurs!!

ok - gonna have to tell me more than that -- what is the setting?

i'm inside some building and ice and crush are on some balcony.

i'm told that there are 3 anchors that need to be taken out (referring to the drill that drilling in the ground).

i don't know if i'm supposed to blow up hte anchors (which i've tried throwing grenades at and subsequently killing either ice or crush) or whether they are supposed to take out the anchors for me.

regardless, ice always seems to die really quickly even though i'm picking off the swat team people as fast as i can.

this is not too long after the car driving scene where you have to follow the airplane which niobe jumped out of.

Ckat, check out GameFAQs for help with Enter the Matrix. 🙂

Good luck, everyone! I'm rooting for you.

ok
corrupt will call out the grenads but they are not necessary - equip the entry shotgun or street sweeper and switch to first person. target the anchors that hold the gear in place and blow them to pieces. the resulting explosion blasts a hole in a nearby air vent. wait for the hole to open and jump through.

I love it! The Columbia "wait list" thread is officially a forum within a thread! With 378 posts and 18000 views, SDN should watch us more closely or we will take over their matrix   Dr. Frantz, if you are reading this, could you please take these people off the waitlist already??

sweet, thanks for all the info. i'll have to try this tonight. =D i never thought about switching to first person. was getting very frustrated. hehe.

today's friday, tho it is friday the 13th.

anyone get a call? let's hope intl's theory holds...

ckat - DF was stuck at the same place so he spent the day blowing up anchors and voyaging through the sewers. Maybe we will hear from him on Monday. 😀

I talked to Dr. Frantz yesterday, and he was very nice on the phone. He repeated basically the line he's told everyone else about fewer withdrawls. He said that the class was still oversubscribed, and he'd already promised admission to a few people, so the chances of my getting off the list was "vanishingly small". They don't close out the waiting list until registration, just in case there's some kind of enrollment disaster, but he did tell me to go ahead and put money down on my apartment on Columbus.

argh, what's with this year? do you think people are still holding on to multiple acceptances?

ugh.

I think, with the bump in applications, there are just fewer applicants who received multiple acceptances, and hence fewer withdrawls overall. I feel like there have only been a couple schools with "typical" waiting list movement, and a much larger number with very little. Out of my seven waiting lists, Columbia, Emory, and USC are crawling along this year, and CWRU has yet to even move....

LOL - same thing he told me - and I asked the same questions. It is good to hear it straight up though.

well, things MIGHT still move a little... that's what i'll be hoping...

if not, i'm fine with where i am (Stony Brook)

personally, i think there's very little hope left, but here's to hanging on to that last little bit...

anyone have any news?

i called and dr. frantz said the same thing as people have been hearing, very little movement this year, go ahead and make plans for that other school... yada yada yada.

oh well, just our luck huh?

no posts to the 'ol thread huh.. have people stopped caring? lost hope?

bump

I am happy with Temple. I have an apartment now in Phila as of July 1 as well - combined with the fact that I think it's prety hopeless at this point.

yeah, i got an apt at stony brook now too. it is kinda hopeless huh? oh well. it was a long shot to begin with anyway.

Gotten any farther in enter the matirx?

Hey you guys,

I miss this thread and am very sad that there has been no movement on this list since early June. However, I wanted to congratulate JM on Philly and Ckat on Stony Brook again... JM you have to promise me you will attend the spring festival on Rittenhouse Square next year, it was so fun! People on the streets, live music and all the restaurants in the area had booths where they sold samples of the food that made them famous. I am going to miss Philly soooo much!!!!! I have to move out on the 17th 🙁

I like food. If I can get it free I like it better. I'll be there.

just called columbia and found out that dr. frantz is on vacation til tuesday. guess that means no more waitlist movement.

haven't gotten much further in enter the matrix, cause my two nephews are visiting for the summer. i figured exposing them to that much violence wouldn't be too good of an idea. they are ages 3 and 1, so i'm sure you can imagine what a terror they both are already!

what have you guys been up to? i've been busy shopping for furniture... can you believe a stupid mattress can cost so much? argh!
