Columbia

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Your mail arrival calculations are correct....however....USPS sometimes, ok rarely, does deliver priority mail one day later than expected. Since there is no delivery guarantee with priority mail, if your package misses a plane or truck etc, USPS just shrugs and waits for the next one out.

So....if you don't get mail tomorrow...don't panic yet. If you don't get it by Tuesday...then.....

Yeah, I just don't want to get my hopes up because then a waitlist/rejection will sting more. So I'm allowing myself to be totally optimistic tomorrow, and then on Tuesday I'll be a bit more guarded. And on Wednesday I'll just be depressed. Can't wait to get through this!

This is pretty pathetic/neurotic, but last night I dug out my Columbia interview invitation and calculated how many days it took between the postmark and when I got it (I happened to remember). I think priority mail should arrive tomorrow and regular mail on Tuesday. So if my mailbox is empty tomorrow, I'll know to expect the worst.

I'm so glad we've had such a supportive thread!

Haha, I don't blame you. I was actually thinking about doing the exact same thing, but then I got lucky and found the acceptance package in my mailbox. Looks like I'll be checking this thread tomorrow to see who else got in...

I've shipped a lot of stuff over the years. Generally, it'll take two days (heck, just last week I shipped something from DC to CA and it took 2 days). Occasionally, it may take 3 days (meaning we may possibly receive an acceptance on Tuesday). Only once (and this is an anomaly) did priority mail take more than 3 days for me (it ended up taking 2 weeks so I don't know what happened). I think 90% of the time, based on my own experience, priority mail takes just 2 days.

I'm really hoping that there is a priority envelope on the way to Mississippi right now with my name on it!!

p.s. dienekes88, my interview was Jan 8th also... & I'm hoping that they were in a particularly good mood that day!!

Wild! I'm about 90% sure I remember you. I can only recall one person with a southern twang... 🙂

Good luck! :luck:

I was gone all weekend to avoid the craziness of waiting for the Columbia decision. I skimmed through the thread, but couldn't find anyone that received a decision outside of NYC. Did anyone receive a decision outside of NYC?

christmas card different then a response by dr. frantz? i got a response from him for my letter of intent. ppl got christmas cards?

Yeah, I remember a thread a while back where people mentioned receiving Christmas cards from Columbia saying something to the effect of, "Don't worry...you will hear back from us in 3 months..." I interviewed in Oct, didn't receive the Christmas card, and am still waiting for a decision...so, just wondering if there is a correlation between receiving the card and acceptances?

I thought that thread was about responses to thank you notes....

I doubt that P and S sends Christmas cards. What about for their non-Christian applicants? Since they don't know the religion for the majority of their applicants, they can't be sure who a Christmas card would be appropriate for.

Very true. Perhaps I'm just confusing my memories...I did actually receive a holiday card from a different school, and maybe misread a P&S thread, thinking they sent them too. Anyway, I'm sure everyone who interviewed will be hearing sometime in the near future, so whether or not they received something before will soon become irrelevant.

Or... maybe you read about people getting response cards around Christmas and just thought it was a Christmas card?

I wrote a letter of intent to Dean Frantz. No response.

Good luck all. i think i exercised more this weekend than any other time in my entire life. I got busy mondays so hopefully i'll be too distracted to think about it too much. :luck:

Haha, I was there on Jan 8th too, now that I look at my orbitz travel document. I have a definite twang and am also from the South. I remember a girl saying she was from MS that day also, but have forgotten most everything/everyone else from that day except our tour guides and Dean Frantz.

Hmm... Did we talk about Anthony Bourdain and travel in South East Asia? Hahaha. If you are that guy, I just figured that you wouldn't have "Magnolia" as your handle.

Or... I could totally be wrong.

Good luck! Hopefully you'll get a thick envelope tomorrow.

Dienekes88 and Dulynoted, I'm pretty sure I remember talking to both of you!! about pastries and alabama respectively🙂

Congrats to Dienekes, & best of luck to Dulynoted... lets hope they need some deep south representation in the c/o 2K12!!

And thus starts the longest Monday ever... good luck everyone!!! :luck::luck::luck:

Hahaha Wow! I wonder how many other people from out interview day are floating around on SDN...! 🙂

Good luck to the deep south! :luck: ... and Boston, Connecticut, the West Coast, Texas, New Mexico, et al. ...

i just wanted to say that this is my first post ever on SDN and that i'm also here enjoying the longest monday of my life...

that was quick. waitlist. life sux.

Sorry man and I hate to bother you but can you tell us what area in the US you are in? Just wanna know when to expect bad news. Thanks

Christ, I almost want to sit outside by my mailbox. If it weren't raining, I probably would.

lol I totally just put up an away message on AIM that says I wish I could be sitting next to my mailbox all day instead of working. I'm seriously considering rushing back to my dorm mid-day to check... but I'm worried that if it's a waitlist then I'll be too bummed to come back to work...

My mom just called me at work to let me know that I've been accepted! I'm going back to my alma mater! Go Lions!

i live in rockland county NY. and i didn't get into columbia or nyu today. or einstein a month ago. or pitt on Christmas eve. or downstate on Hanukkah. well downstate here i come

congratulations you guys! come on mailman....i can't take this any longer

just got my mail in IL with nothing good in it. i'm going to count on a waitlist/rejection, but maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised tomorrow...

You guys get your mail early! If anyone in the South hears anything, post! I'm only half convinced I'll get anything today, might have to wait until tomorrow....argh. Just checked, and nothing. I work until 5 so I'll have to wait until then for the next check!

Anyone else have any good news to report?!?!? I can't check my mail until I get home from work at 6. I'm hoping and praying for a big envelope to balance out not hearing from NYU this morning.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!! :luck::luck:

I live in Boston and I'll post when my mail comes at 3 pm.

Expecting bad news - I just feel like my good luck has to run out at some point...

Ditto. Plus I feel like my interview was eh, at best. But still, at least some resolution!

not much action here.....

come on.

Hmmm, so much negativity in this thread lately. Where's the hope guys??? Well, I'm hoping you guys get in, everyone in this thread seems so nice!

:luck::luck::luck:

No hope here. I live in the NY metro area and did not receive anything on Sat. Expecting a waitlist/rejection today sometime. Not enthused about that. Although, I didn't get my Netflix dvd either and that was supposed to come on Sat too. Too bad, Columbia was my #1 when I first started thinking about the pre-med route some years ago... Oh well. 🙁

Congrats to everyone that got in and good luck to everyone else! Hopefully you'll have better luck than me!

Hey, there's still hope! The mail might just be really slow on Saturday. Or maybe they just mailed your gigantic acceptance envelope late in the day and it'll be there today

yay! THANK GOD! in at columbia!!! keep the hope guys :luck::luck:

Waitlisted today in AL. Came to PO box pretty early this morning. Shucks.

Yeah there is still hope! I live in NJ like a 45 min drive from Columbia and I got my acceptance today!

i'm in NH....acceptance was in my mailbox this morning!

Just got in in Michigan. For those stressing out: I interviewed back in September. All I sent in was an emailed thank you note to my interviewer - no LOI's, no updates, no nothing. I did not receive any letters or emails from Dean Frantz, and actually did not even get a response to my thank you letter, so no news does not necessarily mean bad news.

what day did you interview???🙂

I haven't had a chance to check my mail as I'm at work today (in Boston). I'm trying not to expect anything good after silence from NYU this morning. Ah well, I've had a lot of good fortune in this process so far. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

So, I still don't have anything here in NYC... but I received a letter from San Jose, CA postmarked March 1st. This is odd. I would've received my rejection by now. I called the Columbia admissions office and they told me that they're still sending letters today. I walked over to the office and saw TWO USPS trucks and one DHL truck outside. I oh-so-slyly peeked into the admissions office and saw stacks of medium/large red-lined envelopes (they didn't look like priority mail envelopes...). Around the corner, I saw the USPS man picking up BUCKETS of thin envelopes. BUT! I also think that I saw a bucket of large envelopes! The envelope on top was addressed to Dr. Vincent something...

I have an sneaking suspicion that all of the letters sent out today are rejections. I don't want to call the admissions office again, lest they block my number (I've called SEVERAL times). Anyone want to call and ask if they're still sending out acceptances?
