Does this mean that we will be seeing both DoD and veterans soon in military treatment facilities?

I have a horrible connection, and cannot get the article to load, but I don't think a full merger will happen during most of our professional lifetimes. More likely would be an expansion of the VA sharing agreements with nearby DoD facilities. At my hospital, these are used quite a bit, particularly for our CT surgery division, so I see a lot of VA patients.

It'll unlikely happen but would be good for preventing redundancy and system abuse.

Nothing like fixing a broken system by overloading a barely functional system so that everyone gets substandard care.

Oi, the writer of the article really gives the impression of not knowing what he's talking about. I love how it trumpets avoiding cost over-runs the VA has had on building hospitals by turning it over to the masters of producing quality products on budget and on time: DoD (?!?!?)

There needs to be some degree of separation between active duty and veterans in some of the care they receive. You definitely need a separation for almost all of mental health.

VA Healthcare doesn't need to exist. VA should be an insurer ala TFL.

Military medicine only needs to exist insofar as we need medical care in theater and OCONUS. If a system can be devised that provides that without all the CONUS infrastructure, then the CONUS facilities should all close too.
