So after certifying my rank list I get an email from one of my top programs through ERAS informing me of a "new" EM program that was just approved. Although the email says that it is a mass email and they want everyone to be informed in case they have to scramble, I am just wondering if I should take the hint. I mean "come on man" why would a program send out a mass email informing everyone that interviewed there to get ready to scramble and by the way here is a new program to try, I don't need this right now!

If it's the same email I got (and I suspect it is), the PD told our group about the new program while we were there and urged us to consider it. I believe he's friends with the other PD and was trying to support his efforts to start the program. It didn't sound like he was informing everyone to "get ready to scramble", just saying that if that happens, here's a new program to consider.

I got that email too (assuming, of course, we're all talking about one program). I don't think it's a "hint" at all. I agree with Tiger that the program director is sincerely trying to make sure every applicant knows about every opportunity to enter EM. Also, the new program is participating in the match, so who knows how many of their spots will even be available to scramble into.

Anyone care to share any info on this elusive new program?? 😀

I got the same ERAS generated email too. I don't think it means anything. Did you guys get any previous emails from this program director?

Good, so I am not going to worry about it. Best of luck to everyone in the match.

if i have to scramble i hope UW has some spots left, id love to go there.

I'd love to go there in 5 years. I just don't feel like being at a residency in the first two or three years of a program.

Me too. If I had to scramble, I would love to end up there. But, from what I hear, they actually got an overwhelming number of applications even though applicants had to send in application by mail. There are 6 spots. Not expecting them to have to scramble anyone in.
