And these people want to prescribe?

I received this query from Alice Chang, Ph.D. in Tucson. I have no experience with Symbax. Could people on this listserve comment directly to Alice? Thanks, Jack Wiggins

Subject: Symbax

Hi everyone, HELP!
I am interested in knowing what the effects of Symbax might be with a person with seizure disorder, who is already taking the following medications:
Dilantin 500 mg
Neurontin 800mg X 3
Keppra 500 mg 6 pills X 3
Nexim 40 mg
Oxycodone QID (He says he takes this PRN and it is not so often)
Diazapam 5 mg PRN
Diozastat 20 mg PRN
Temazepam 30 mg at night

his doctor wants him to take Symbax 6 mg once a day, but said to ask a psychologist.. He is quite depressed and if this is an inappropriate medication, could you suggest something

Please give me your opinion, I am not familiar with this medicatiosn which is a combo of Zyprexa and something to my knowledge.

Wow, you guys are brutal! I guess it would be OK for me to post the stupid questions physicians ask me? I would not, as it would be mean-spirited, childish and taken in ignorance out of context. We are supposed to be in this together to some degree.
Lastly, everytime I make a point with either of you on a post you have made the conversation ends..Why is that? 😎

Quote from that article: "Admirable sentiments indeed, but when was the last time Leard-Hansson, or any of us, did a rectal examination on a patient? "

Actually, I did one when I was on call on Saturday. Patient had a high WBC count and was on Lithium. However, was having trouble urinating and had a Neutrophil shift. Did a head to toe physical exam, his prostate was firm, boggy, and tender. Started him on Bactrim DS for Acute Bacterial Prostatitis and he's doing great so far. i.e. I could have easily chalked his WBC count to being on Lithium but found he did have a medical condition through my training in MEDICINE. Is a weekend psychopharm class going to be able to teach the diagnosis and management of prostatitis? Lastly, of course we have an economic interest in this. If our wages drop to nothing who is going to pay off my $250,000 in loans? Or, buy a house? Or, buy a car? Unfortunately, I have a car with over 200,000 miles, no home and a quarter million in debt. I turn 30 this year and my wife and I would like to have kids before we're 40. So, duh, I think most of us as Physicians that have spent 8 years of hell getting through college and medical school have a vested interest in making money at some point.
