Well in about 5 weeks we shall find out where the rest of our lives are headed. How do you guys feel? Scared? Nervous? Excited?

I feel like this whole process went by REALLY fast. I took the DAT early summer and from then to receiving the ~1st - 2nd interview time refused to go by at all but now I feel like there's been zero time from August till now. Crazy ! 👍

I'm glad that it's so soon! I interviewed at my favorite school in August, so waiting until Dec. 1st to hear back has been brutal. Let's hope the next few weeks fly by! 😀

I feel all of the above! Its kind of crazy to think about how in 5 weeks, the decision we make will seriously change our lives. Even though I have been crazy busy, time has been going by so slow lol. I've been thinking about december since my first interview in August. Anyways, its an exciting time for sure!

I've thinking about vacation in Dec and where I should go. Haven't really thought about the admissions decisions coming. So do the schools call us or email or send snail mail on Dec. 1?

It doesn't end after Dec. 1st guys.. I've heard from dental students that getting accepted is only half the battle

Depends on the school. Some will mail out acceptances on Dec 1 (like Columbia) others will email you (like UMDNJ) and I think Harvard calls...

Paying that $2000 deposit?

paying the deposit while waiting to hear back from your #1 choice and then giving up that money to go to your first choice... priceless lol

Paying that $2000 deposit?

srsly...

if you have trouble paying 2k deposit, then how are you gonna pay 200k for 4 yrs?

and i thought dent school has really low attrition rates.

getting in is like 80% of the battle imo

Well, people can get bank loans to pay their $300-400K student loan, however, the deposit amount has to come out of someone's pocket right now which not everyone has.

Well, I heard Harvard doesn't require a deposit to save your seat. Just get into Harvard and you don't have to worry about deposit money.

I didn't apply there. I'm not good enough for them. 😡

omg, chill out people. I was just playing. You guys didnt see the question mark at the end ??????????????????

What do you even do the last day of November? I guess you stay up and refresh AADSAS!

Part of me can't wait for Dec 1 to find out how things work out and yet another part of me is so nervous for Dec 1 that I'm not ready for it to arrive! I wish there was a crystal ball to tell us what to expect! Is there a rule of thumb about # of interviews that should make you feel ok about getting in someplace? Common sense says no (could rejected from all even if you have several interviews or get in if you only have 1) but maybe there are stats on this?

the stats come from the official ADEA guide, i've made my analysis based on what schools have high % of acceptances in the last year. For example, some schools had a very small % of accepted students that it interviewed (i think its as low as 25%) so thats not a worthy interview. Use the ADEA guide or doc toothache's file to determine what school is right for you.

all in your confidence i hope 🙂 even if you got just the 1!

at certain schools like case or tufts, there is an 80+% chance of getting accepted post interview. so you know if you got one of those pre dec 1 you are going to d-school (relatively speaking.)

What is the deal on post Dec. 1 interviews?

What is the deal on post Dec. 1 interviews?

It's not as if the schools fill all their spots in December, just because they give out acceptances by December, doesn't mean the whole thing is closed and over with.

In short, post Dec. 1 interviews are either to continue filling spots and get good (but later) applicants into the alternate/wait-list territory (because plenty of people they accept by December won't take the acceptance to that specific school).

Really, this thread('s excitement) is limited to those who've already gone through their interviews, the reality however is that this whole process extends months into 2012 for many applicants.

Harder to get in if you have post dec interview since most of the seats are taken by pre-dec interviewees.

How do you feel about the acceptance rate at Case for students with late interview dates? I understand that the ADEA stats include pre- & post-December, but I can't imagine the chance of acceptance still being +80% with a springtime interview... thoughts?

I agree. This thread excludes what I think are the majority of dental school applicants who aren't getting any pre-dec interviews.

It seems to me that if you've received a pre-dec interview then that means that the dental schools are prioritizing you so I dunno what all of you people are worried about. You'll be getting in for sure.

Edit: Lol. Sorry for sounding bitter. But seriously, congrats to you guys, I'm sure you worked really hard and deserve it. 👍

Can you be a pre-Dec. 1st candidate if you take the DAT in July (given you have your applications completed beforehand)? You would just have to go back and send your scores to all the schools you applied to, right? Or no?

Of course. Taking the DAT any time in July is still considered early. And you don't even have to manually send your scores, AADSAS does it for you.

I'm making plans to get laid on Dec. 1. Either way, it will be a celebration gift or a consolation prize lol.

Well we dont know all the details. i.e. how many students are interviewed and accepted pre and post dec. the problem is each school fills the seats differently. Some schools fill up 50% of the class pre dec 1, while others fill it 66% pre dec 1.

I would make the following assumptions: if you are interviewing pre dec 1 your chances are equivalent to the %, if not higher. My Case interview is really late in April, so yes I doubt I have a 88% chance there. Meanwhile, my U of Minn interview is in November, so yes I do believe my chances are 76% if not higher.

I know who you're talking about. He was a funny guy.

I am having a bottle of champagne ready that evening. There will be an impromptu party!

I was thinking about how to celebrate too. I thought about possibly planning a party for that day but it would be so depressing if I didn't get an acceptance on the 1st = total FAIL lol

Told myself I'd reward myself with a puppy if I received an acceptance on Dec. 1 🙂

As lovely as that sounds, I imagine a new dog might be too distracting during the first year or dental school... 🙁

Slash too expensive.

Here's a thread I found off the pre-med forum with tons of cute cat pictures.
