HI I have a very general question about osteopathic radiology programs. What is the minium score a person needs to have any chance. I know this is a bad question considering there are other things involved with the selection process for radiology but im just really confused, i have been hearing allot of the numbers that vary allot from different people. if someone can please let me knwo what they think or what they have seen that would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Some residents told me at least 50% on boards. Some programs want at least 70%. I know that the Grandview program is very interested in board scores. Probably because they aren't interested in teaching and think this will ensure better students. Don't waste your time there if you aren't really good on paper. I had 5 interviews with mediocre scores and less mediocre GPA. Don't worry too much about it if you can rotate somewhere and make a good impression. Be assertive though.

I had >600 on Level 1 and I got interviews to all programs I applied to except Botsford. Didn't rotate there so rotating at DO programs is HUGE!

I got the impression despite good clinical grades, LORs, and board scores that they still relied a lot on whether or not you rotated through their program.

I'd say you'd be okay with >540 if you at least rotated through whichever program you are interested in....its a big part of the application I think.

Thanks allot
cleared up some misconceptions i had take care and good luck

any idea if good comlex scores will get you more interviews at MD institutions? How good?

This COMLEX question I think really goes back to the DO vs MD question. Both sides will passionately point out their side is better so it is a good thing to have a standardized test to measure knowledge. 😉

If you have studied hard throughout medical school and also area savvy test taker, you'll probably do fine on your boards...whether your school's philosophy subscribes to the COMLEX variety or the USMLE type.

I have friends from DO programs who scored high on COMLEX and for good measure (or more likely to prove nay-sayers wrong) took and aced the USMLE too. That seems like overkill to me and not an easy thing to score high or either 😀 ! But in an extremely tight squeeze for the best talent, program directors also have their own MD vs DO biases.

Doesn't matter what you get on COMLEX for MD institutions...at all.

Absolutely NOT TRUE! My wife got interviewed at all the allopathic radiology programs in the midwest that she applied to. She had good comlex scores. She interviewed at 9 allopathic places (mostly academic) and 2 osteopathic ones (because she only chose those two). Anyway, the allopathic programs never once questioned her COMLEX. They told her it was more then fine. Also, some of the allopathic programs she interviewed at had D.O.'s as program directors! It would be pretty hard for them to discriminate against the COMLEX, since that was the exam that they themselves became liscensed with.
