Is anyone else's commissioning process for HPSP taking forever? I began mine in early November and I'm told that my commissioning docs are coming at the end of the month. I had one snag, not being qualified for MEPS; I had to go this absurd round-about rout to get cleared. But that only took an extra month. Now the wait has been four...

Anyone have similar stories of having their comission date delayed significantly?

(I can just hear Galo caustically cautioning "you'd better get real used to it... They'll be years more of that and much worse to deal with...)

I'm in the same situation, physical in November, waiver needed, and still waiting to be commissioned. Hopefully within the next few weeks.

It's those pesky scrolls. They are a nightmare.

What you said, without a doubt and without the causticity. What you and others need to realize is I don't know you, I have no personal issue with you. However, when you come here to print BS that you've never experienced and then assume that those of us who had problems with the military must have some defect, then I will call you on it, every time. Good luck in the navy, and be sure to continue reporting your experience.

Easy, Galo.

I think you're a good guy and well-spoken; I've learned loads from you; and I don't doubt what you say or that you're patriotic. You have the qualities of a good mentor. I also agree with you 100% that to be an American patriot is to question and debate the fairness, effectiveness, and efficiency of all enterprises, governmental and non.

It's just that given my personal situation, I have a gut feeling that it's the best move for me. I'm big on gut feelings, by the way, especially when there are no strong evidence-centered studies to consult. I mean that there have not been enough studies of comparisons between allopathic/osteopathic and military-medical institutions. Yes, there is a great deal of testimony available, but I really feel that you could easily line up a good deal of both positive and negative testimony.

My decision to join is not a denial of the numerous negative accounts of milimed that I've read. In fact, I think they've really helped me develop a more accurate picture of what to expect. I think these more realistic expectations will save me some heartache down the road.

Agreed!

Just to return to the topic for a minute. I started th process in October '06 (MEPS). My comissioning date was 05MAY07. Be patient.

I, too, had a long wait (also a DQ from MEPS because I have migraines but I got a waiver for it). There were other issues, too, with paperwork getting lost... it was a pretty frustrating process. I think I started everything in the summer of '06 and everything was finished in the late winter/early spring of '07 :zip: (I just wanted to put that icon in, it has nothing to do with anything, lol).

I started the formal application process with the Navy in September 2007 and took my oath 15 February 2008. That said, I still don't show up on the scrolls with reserves so I can't formally apply for orders to ODS until that gets updated.

If you have done your oath, you should be able to sign up for ODS. E-mail the Navy at [email protected]

I think I won:

I had my physical in November of 2003. I didn't get commissioned until August of 2004.

1. failed MEPS
2. the first MEPS visit was with the Army and they hid my physical
3. The Navy board didn't understand the concept of early assurance and why I didn't need to take the MCAT
4. couldn't find anyone within 3 hours to do the oath

it seemed like every weekend I got a call from the recruiter that something was "missing" from the file. Kinda like a lot of the reimbursements I have sent in recently.
