I know u have to do active duty for 45 days a year (at least for air force), but what exactly does that mean? what do u do during these days, and are u paid for the 45 days or is it included in the $2060/mo?

The first summer you are supposed to go to Officer Development School. The second year is school orders to study for licensing boards. The third and fourth year are for clerkships working at a Navy dental clinic so you can get a feel for how Navy Dentistry is practiced. You will not get your $2060 stipend, but instead you will be paid as an active duty O-1 (expect about about $3000 for the 45 day period). If your school doesn't give you enough time off, you will simply be placed on active duty for school orders, and you will just have to go to ODS after graduation.

yeah...for example. I'm going to be in San Bernardino county in CA. So during the 45 day active duty (school orders because my school is year round and won't permit me to miss class) I'll be getting $2745 base pay, $223 BAH, and $1329 BAH. So total would be 4297-taxes on the base pay. And so you take that and multiply it by 1.5 which will be your 45 days...and you get the picture. Everything depends on your living situation (where and with how many dependents).

Anyway, getting back to the topic at hand..it also depends on if your school is year round or not...if it is, you will be going to ODS after graduation, if it isn't then plan on what del Sol DOHC has said
