Anyone here completed the Fordham Post-Bacc and matriculated into med school?
Apparently Fordham Post-Bacc provides you with a committee letter and I just want to know if I am going to need LOR's from professors/physicians in addition to the committee letter provided by the university.

Any input on LOR's are welcomed! Thanks

What does Fordham ask you to provide to the Committee so they can prepare the letter? If you are obtaining a Committee letter that’s all you have to submit to med schools. Usually schools will ask for letters from specific professors, maybe a character ref, etc. Then a letter will be written. Usually, the rec letters will be sent along with the Committee letter.

That's a committee letter. Follow Fordham's instructions to the letter regarding LORs submitted on your behalf, deadlines, etc. I'm not familiar with Fordham's letter but Columbia's post-bac committee letter is always super-informative and really "sells" the applicant.

You will need at least 2 LORs from Fordham science professors and one from a mentor/physician you shadowed/volunteer supervisor/etc. The program director will use the LORs you submit during the CHP process to compile the committee letter to "sell" you to medical schools. They will submit your committee letter packet through the AMCAS letter service, which will include these LORs. Any LORs after the CHP process will not be included in the packet, but you can still submit them separately to the schools you apply to. I believe other post-bacc programs have a similar process.

FYI - I submitted LORs from 2 professors, a former work supervisor, and a neurosurgeon I volunteer for during the CHP process. In my AMCAS application, I submitted only the committee letter.

I hope this helps.

AH I SEE! Hey I would like to message you about the process.

No, for the vast majority of medical schools, the committee letter provided by Fordham is the only letter of recommendation that you will need to submit for your application to medical school. You may want to inquire if the premed committee will consider any outside letters submitted are part of the post-bacc committee process such as from employers, especially if you are a career changer. My reading of their process does suggest they do (see very last sentence at bottom page emphasis added)

The Fordham PCS Post Bac Pre-Med Program Committee on Health Professions Process

The Fordham Postbaccalaureate program Committee on Health Professions (CHP) process is a comprehensive one which provides candidates with several workshops and support to prepare them for the medical school application process. The CHP process includes a committee interview and committee letter.
An enhanced Committee on Health Professions process is effective for the spring 2020 application cycle.
As our students have been seeing increasing success in recent years, we have identified methods that will place our pending candidates in the best position as they prepare for the medical school application process.
Students must submit a preliminary application to be considered as a candidate for the Committee on Health Professions process. This application is distributed to all current postbaccalaureate students. The preliminary application will be reviewed by our Board of Evaluators and decisions will be made as to which applicants will be eligible to proceed with the committee process.
In order to apply for the CHP process, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA
  • Minimum 150 hours of health related work and/or volunteer experience
  • Minimum 30 credits of coursework taken in the Fordham Postbaccalaureate program or the PCS Undergraduate program only. Additionally, students must have attended classes in the
Fordham Postbac program for at least 2 semesters (not including summer sessions) prior to
    applying to the CHP process.
  • Completion and submission of CHP process application
Candidates who indicate intent to participate in a spring CHP cohort after the CHP application deadline will not be able to participate in the spring CHP process. (Students may still apply to medical school but will not be able to get a committee letter from the Fordham Postbaccalaureate program.)
Please note:
Students may apply for the CHP process up to one application cycle after leaving the Fordham Postbaccalaureate program.
Students completing or who have completed a Fordham College undergraduate degree or postbaccalaureate work at another program are not eligible for the Fordham Postbac CHP process.

All courses in the basic curriculum must be completed prior to or concurrent with the professional school admissions test and no later than the end of the first summer session of the application year in which the Committee Evaluation is sought. The Committee evaluation letter is based on a student's academic portfolio which includes the following: coursework, transcripts, personal statement, self-assessment and biographical information on personal history including volunteer and/or internship experience and research experience, faculty recommendations, and a personal interview with members of the Committee.
Thanks! And yes I am a career changer... Now I just have to put in the hours to ace the post bacc natural sciences courses and ace the MCAT... Easier said than done 🙂

I can't wait to be sold to all of NY's med schools
