What if I cannot get a committee letter from my pre-health professions committee because I graduated from that school and I am an alumni planning on applying for the 2010 cycle. Most schools will only give committee letter to those who are current students. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do? Did you petition the committee to have the letter or did you just go to individual professors? Also, if you are going to individual professors do you have to get letters from professors that you took classes or can you get letters from professors that know your work like worked in a research lab but do not know about your academic background. Thanks in advance.

I got my committee letter after I graduated. I had asked couple of my professors to write me letters and I kept in touch with them throughout the year so they don't forget me. The health advisor had actually changed after I graduated, so I scheduled a meeting/interview with him and talked everything about me and my credentials throughout the school years and after.
I think its a good idea to get a letter from both your research professor and from your lecturer. Your research professor will be able to tell more about your interest and enthusiasm and your self-reliability when it comes to working indepently. Your class lecturer will be able to tell more about your performance and how well you work with others as well as how interested you were in the class (not just another student who showed up and made an A)...meaning someone who made active contribution through questions and discussions.
Good luck!!!
